Argentina's wins over Algeria and Austria in their first two games of Group J confirmed their place as group winners before their final game against World Cup debutants Jordan.

The Arabian nation have already been confirmed a fourth place finish in Group J despite valiant efforts in their two losses so far. A first World Cup goal from Ali Olwan sparked excitement across Jordan, but was not enough to give them a chance heading into match week three.

Lionel Messi has been the star of the show with the forward, who celebrated his 39th birthday on Wednesday, has already tallied five goals in two games for La Albiceleste as he remains Argentina's only goalscorer so far this tournament.

The two sides face each other in Dallas on Saturday June 27 at 9pm local time (June 28 at 3am BST) with the opportunity for Jamal Sellami's side to leave everything on the pitch as they bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup.

Meanwhile Lionel Scaloni can utilise the fixture to rotate and experiment with his squad ahead of their Round of 32 tie against Group H runners up, which is now confirmed to be Cape Verde as their iconic tournament run continues.

With their place in the knockout rounds confirmed, Scaloni could utilise their tie against the Jordanian to take risks and give chances to their wildcards within the team.

Many had high expectations for the likes of Valentin Barco after a standout season for Strasbourg. Nico Paz another hot prospect eager to make a mark.

Whilst Messi's efficiency in front of goal has been a superb watch, the Argentines do need another source of goals after Serie A golden boot winner Lautaro Martinez has failed to find the back of the net in the first two fixtures.

Rotation in the Argentinian side could also give the Jordanians the belief to deliver a shock to the reigning World Champions. Their resilient 3-4-3 system proved to be effective on the counter, but their ability to hold off relentless pressure has proven fatal.

The major news heading into the game is the confirmation that Lionel Messi will begin the game on the bench, giving the veteran the chance to rest his legs ahead of the knockout rounds.

Despite remaining quiet over the rest of his team selection, Scaloni did confirm Messi's place as a substitute agains the Jordanians.

He stated: "Leo Messi will be on the bench against Jordan. He will have minutes in the second half."

The Argentina captain is in hot pursuit of the 2026 World Cup golden boot and leads the way with five goals after only two games, narrowly followed by Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior who each have four goals after three games played.

Messi's place on the bench could open a slot for either Julian Alvarez or Nico Paz who s fresh from making his stay at Como long term after the Italian club re-signed the youngster from Paz's parent club Real Madrid.

Cristian Romero will likely be a miss after suffering a knee injury in the second half against Austria. This leaves the door open to veteran Nicolas Otamendi or late call-up Marcos Senesi to step into the Argentina backline.

No major injuries have impacted the Jordan squad as Ali Olwan is still expected to lead the attack with star man Mousa Tamari eager to leave his mark against the Argentines.

The depth of the Argentina squad is sublime. Even with Messi starting on the bench, the starting forwards will be desperate to make their case to start again in the knockouts. 

I expect Argentina to absolutely dominate in possession and their quick interplay has proven to be too much even for Austria and Algeria, making it hard to see Jordan overcoming them. An unfortunate ending for the Jordanians, but one they would still be proud of.
