Teammates stood frozen as the defender lay unconscious for 90 seconds following a violent aerial collision, overshadowing Leverkusen’s heavy defeat and leaving the locker room shaken.

Bayer Leverkusen's 3-0 defeat against Hoffenheim on Sunday was overshadowed by a frightening incident involving defender Loïc Badé, who was initially unresponsive following a violent clash of heads.

The 26-year-old Frenchman collided with Hoffenheim striker Max Moerstedt during the closing stages of the match, requiring several minutes of medical attention before being carried off on a stretcher.

Speaking to BILD after the final whistle, Robert Andrich revealed just how concerning the situation had been for his teammates.

The collision occurred shortly before Hoffenheim doubled their lead in the 89th minute.

Both players challenged for an aerial ball and struck heads with considerable force, immediately leaving Badé on the ground.

Medical staff rushed onto the pitch as concerned players from both teams gathered around the defender.

Andrich, who witnessed the incident from close range, admitted he had been deeply shaken.

"To be honest, I felt frozen in that moment, almost paralysed,"

The German international explained.

He added that several players from both teams appeared equally stunned by what they had witnessed.

Asked whether Badé had been responsive immediately after the collision, Andrich answered: "No, not really."

The midfielder later explained that Badé was initially unable to respond properly while receiving treatment.

"First and foremost, we definitely hope that Loïc gets better soon,"

Andrich told BILD.

For Leverkusen's players, the frightening scene immediately became more important than the result.

Martínez Provides Encouraging Update

Fortunately, Carles Martínez was able to provide some reassuring news following the match.

Speaking to reporters, the Leverkusen coach confirmed that Badé had regained consciousness and was communicating with his teammates.

"The most important thing is that he's doing well. He's talking to us."

Martínez explained.

The Spaniard revealed that Badé had been unresponsive for approximately 90 seconds and could not remember the collision.

However, his condition had improved sufficiently for him to speak normally and take a shower after the match.

The update offered considerable relief following an incident that had initially appeared extremely serious.

Nevertheless, Die Werkself have not yet confirmed a final medical diagnosis or indicated how long the defender might be unavailable.

Badé's Health Comes Before Football

The injury compounded an already disappointing afternoon for Leverkusen, whose six-match winning streak ended with a heavy defeat.

Andrej Kramarić opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Alexander Prass and Moerstedt completed Hoffenheim's 3-0 victory.

However, the result became secondary to concerns surrounding Badé.

The French defender has been an important part of Martínez's defensive options, and any absence would create another challenge for the Werkself.

Leverkusen return to action against Nürnberg in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday, although Badé's availability remains uncertain pending further medical assessment.

For now, the encouraging news is that he was conscious and communicating after the match.

Following such a frightening collision, his full recovery must take priority over any potential return to the pitch.
