A major transfer rumor is currently making waves across European football: Karim Benzema could reportedly be a surprise target for Bayer Leverkusen.
The 38-year-old French striker is once again at the center of transfer speculation after ending his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. Benzema, who enjoyed an extraordinary career at Real Madrid and won the Ballon d'Or in 2022, is now being linked with a potential return to European football.
According to DZfoot reporter Ilyes Kaddouri, there has been direct contact between Benzema and Bayer Leverkusen. The report has quickly caught the attention of both Leverkusen and Algerian fans, particularly with Ibrahim Maza already emerging as one of Bayer Leverkusen’s most exciting young talents. The possibility of Maza sharing the pitch with Karim Benzema, a French international of Algerian descent, has only added to the excitement surrounding the story.
But how serious is the possibility of Benzema actually moving to the Bundesliga?

BILD contacted sporting director Simon Rolfes and asked about the possibility of signing Benzema. His response was short but significant:
Our squad is complete.
Those words suggest that Leverkusen do not currently see the need to add another major attacking player.
The club already has several options in the forward positions. Patrik Schick remains an experienced striker capable of leading the attack, while Christian Kofane is regarded as an exciting young talent. Victor Boniface also remains part of the picture, although he is currently recovering from a serious knee injury.
From a purely sporting perspective, Benzema would obviously offer something different. His experience at the highest level, his ability to link play and his leadership could make him an attractive option for almost any club.
A blockbuster move or simply a rumor?
There is no doubt that a Benzema transfer to Leverkusen would be one of the Bundesliga's biggest stories.
The Frenchman would bring enormous international attention to the club, while his experience of winning major trophies with Real Madrid could also be valuable inside the dressing room. At 38, however, questions about his age, physical condition, and the club's existing attacking options would naturally have to be considered.
