The Italian giants outpaced Chelsea to secure the Bosnian starlet in a €40 million deal, offering the teenager an immediate first-team role and a path to stardom.

Kerim Alajbegović's future now appears to be decided.

After weeks of intense competition involving some of Europe's biggest clubs, Juventus have reached a full agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign the highly-rated 18-year-old, according to Sky Germany.

The deal represents a major victory for the Italian giants, who have overtaken Chelsea, Napoli and Atalanta in one of the summer's most closely watched races for a young attacking talent.

Under the agreement, Juventus will initially pay €33 million for Alajbegović, with performance-related bonuses capable of increasing the total package to €40 million. Only the final contractual details remain before the transfer can be officially completed.

For Bayer Leverkusen, the transfer marks another remarkable piece of business.

Alajbegović only returned to the club this summer after Bayer activated a buy-back clause following his impressive spell at RB Salzburg. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international had been expected to compete for a first-team role under new head coach Carles Martínez, but his rapid rise attracted interest from across Europe almost immediately.

Chelsea had long appeared to be the favourites.

The Premier League club, now managed by former Bayer coach Xabi Alonso, had presented an ambitious long-term project and was reportedly prepared to match Leverkusen's valuation. A loan pathway to another European club was also discussed as part of Chelsea's development plan.

However, Juventus ultimately convinced both Bayer and the player.

The decisive factor appears to have been the sporting project. Unlike Chelsea's proposal, Juventus are believed to have offered Alajbegović a more immediate opportunity to establish himself within the first-team squad, something that proved particularly attractive to the teenager.

That sporting vision ultimately allowed the Serie A giants to overcome Chelsea's financial strength.

Napoli and Atalanta also remained interested throughout the process, but neither club managed to move ahead of Juventus during the final stages of negotiations.

For Leverkusen, the deal continues another summer of significant squad restructuring.

The club are expected to receive one of the largest fees ever generated by a player developed within their system, strengthening their financial position ahead of the remainder of the transfer window. Combined with other potential outgoing transfers, the sale gives sporting director Simon Rolfes additional flexibility as Bayer continue reshaping the squad under Martínez.

The focus will now shift towards reinvestment.

Leverkusen have already been linked with several young attacking profiles in recent weeks and are expected to continue searching for players who fit the club's long-term recruitment model rather than replacing Alajbegović with one direct signing.

For Juventus, meanwhile, the agreement represents another statement of intent.

Beating Chelsea to one of Europe's most highly-rated young attackers sends a clear signal about the club's ambitions, while Alajbegović now prepares for what could become the biggest step of his career.

Barring any last-minute complications, the winger's medical and contract signing are expected to follow shortly, bringing an end to one of the summer's longest-running transfer sagas.
