Contract talks have stalled as Bayer Leverkusen’s rising star eyes a move to England, sparking intense interest from giants like Arsenal and Manchester United for the striker.
Christian Kofane's future at Bayer Leverkusen is becoming increasingly uncertain, with Sky Sport Germany now reporting that the striker is pushing for a move to the Premier League.
The development comes just a day after reports suggested that negotiations over a new contract had stalled because of disagreements over financial terms.
Leverkusen want to extend the 20-year-old's contract from 2029 until 2031 and have reportedly offered him a salary increase. But talks are making no progress, and Sky's latest information suggests the problem may go considerably deeper than money.
A Different Story From Yesterday
The Cameroon international was reportedly told that the signing bonus negotiated by his agency, Afrosport, could be improved.
Crucially, that report suggested Kofane still wanted to extend his contract and had not changed his mind about remaining at Die Werkself.
Sky Sport Germany is now reporting something different.
According to the broadcaster, Kofane is actively pushing for a Premier League move, casting fresh doubt on whether the contract extension Leverkusen have been working towards will materialise.
The two reports offer contrasting assessments of the player's intentions. While financial demands may still play a role, the possibility that Kofane is considering his next career step in England changes the situation for Bayer.
Five Premier League Clubs Are Interested
Kofane has attracted considerable attention from England over the past few months.
Arsenal have reportedly maintained contact with his representatives since the spring, while Manchester United recently joined the list of interested clubs.
Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Everton also approached the striker during the summer, according to Sport Bild, although Kofane rejected those opportunities at the time.
There is currently no indication that any of those clubs have entered formal negotiations with Die Werkself.
But Sky's latest report gives their interest renewed significance.
According to the broadcaster, Leverkusen had already established a valuation of between €60 million and €70 million for Kofane during the summer.
That figure underlines how highly Bayer rate the striker and how expensive a potential move to England could become.
Leverkusen Still Hold A Strong Position
Kofane joined the Bundesliga club from Albacete in the summer of 2025 and has quickly established himself as one of the club's most promising young attacking players.
He has already scored three goals in six appearances this season, continuing the development that convinced Leverkusen to pursue an early extension.
However, the striker is currently sidelined for several weeks with a thigh injury, temporarily interrupting his progress.
For Bayer, the contractual situation offers some protection.
Kofane remains tied to the club until 2029, meaning there is no immediate necessity to negotiate a sale or accept an offer below their valuation.
Die Werkself's intention is still to keep him for the long term.
The proposed extension until 2031 would provide additional security and reflect his growing importance within Carles Martínez's squad.
But convincing him to sign may now be more difficult than initially anticipated.
Rolfes Faces An Important Decision
For Simon Rolfes, the situation presents an increasingly delicate challenge.
The German side have invested in Kofane's development and want him to become an important part of their attack for years to come.
Just a month ago, an agreement over a new contract appeared close.
Now negotiations have stalled, Premier League interest continues to grow, and reports about the striker's intentions are moving in different directions.
The club can afford to remain patient because of his existing contract. There is no reason to rush into a decision while Kofane recovers from injury.
But the next round of discussions should provide a clearer indication of whether an agreement until 2031 remains realistic.
Leverkusen want Kofane to commit his future to the club.
According to Sky, the striker increasingly has England on his mind.
