Moussa Diaby’s lengthy layoff and Loïc Badé’s frightening head injury leave Carles Martínez scrambling for solutions as an intensifying injury crisis threatens to derail Leverkusen’s campaign.
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed worrying injury news following Sunday's 3-0 defeat against TSG Hoffenheim, with Moussa Diaby ruled out until after the November international break and Loïc Badé diagnosed with a head contusion and a laceration.
Both French internationals were forced off during a difficult afternoon in Sinsheim, adding to Carles Martínez's growing selection problems.
While Diaby faces several weeks on the sidelines, Die Werkself have received more encouraging news regarding Badé following the frightening collision that left him temporarily unresponsive.
Diaby Ruled Out Until After November International Break
Leverkusen confirmed on Monday that Diaby suffered a fascial injury to the back of his right thigh during the defeat against Hoffenheim.
The 27-year-old initially experienced discomfort in the 36th minute and attempted to continue playing before eventually being replaced by Malik Tillman five minutes later.
Following medical examinations, the club announced that Diaby is not expected to return until after the international break in November.
That means the French winger will miss several important fixtures, including Wednesday's DFB-Pokal encounter against Nürnberg and upcoming Bundesliga and European matches.
His absence represents a significant setback for Martínez, particularly with Leverkusen already dealing with injuries to several attacking players.
Martin Terrier, Eliesse Ben Seghir and Christian Kofane are among those currently unavailable, leaving the Spanish coach with fewer options during a demanding period of the season.
Malik Tillman, Nathan Tella and Afonso Moreira could consequently become even more important in the coming weeks.
Badé's Diagnosis Confirmed After Frightening Collision
Leverkusen also provided an official update on Loïc Badé following his collision with Hoffenheim striker Max Moerstedt during the closing stages.
The French defender suffered a head contusion and a laceration, with the club confirming that he underwent extensive neurological examinations on Monday.
The incident had caused considerable concern after Badé remained on the ground and required medical attention before being carried off on a stretcher.
Robert Andrich later revealed that his teammate had initially been unresponsive, while Martínez explained that Badé had been unable to communicate for approximately 90 seconds.
Fortunately, the coach was able to provide encouraging news shortly after the final whistle.
"The most important thing, of course, is that he's doing well now. He's talking to us. He's in the shower right now. If everything goes normally, he'll travel back with us and continue as before."
Leverkusen have not announced a specific return date for Badé but hope the 26-year-old can return to action soon.
Given the nature of the collision, his recovery and medical clearance will remain the priority.
Martínez Faces Growing Injury Crisis
The latest setbacks arrive at a particularly difficult moment for the Werkself.
Sunday's defeat ended Leverkusen's six-match winning streak, and the club now face four matches in twelve days before the international break.
Alongside Diaby and Badé, Leverkusen are already without several players, including Terrier, Ben Seghir, Kofane, Guéla Doué, Kennet Eichhorn and Montrell Culbreath.
The growing injury list places additional pressure on Martínez to manage his squad carefully while attempting to restore momentum following the defeat in Sinsheim.
Diaby's absence is particularly frustrating because Leverkusen now knows they must manage without him for several weeks.
For Badé, however, the latest medical update offers hope after an incident that initially appeared extremely serious.
Die Werkself will be desperate to have both players back as soon as possible, but their immediate challenge is finding solutions with an increasingly stretched squad.
From here the stage only gets bigger.
