Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Algerian sensation, but the German champions are countering with a lucrative new contract to keep the rising playmaker at the BayArena.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ibrahim Maza has become the subject of fresh transfer speculation after reports emerged claiming Paris Saint-Germain are determined to sign the Algerian international.

However, the excitement surrounding a potential move to France has been met with a more cautious picture from Germany, where Sky Sport's reporting points towards Leverkusen securing the 20-year-old's future rather than preparing for his departure.

Maza has been one of the standout performers under Carles Martínez this season, and his rapid development is increasingly attracting attention across Europe.

French Reports Claim PSG Are Ready To Push For Maza

The speculation began with Algerian journalist Brahim Hanifi, whose information was subsequently reported by several French outlets.

According to Hanifi, PSG are extremely interested in Maza and want to secure his signature "at any cost."

The French champions reportedly view the midfielder as an attractive long-term addition to Luis Enrique's squad, particularly because of his technical ability and versatility.

Maza is most comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder but has also featured on both wings for Leverkusen.

His performances this season have strengthened his reputation considerably. Across his first eight competitive appearances, he registered three goals and three assists.

His latest Bundesliga display against Freiburg was particularly impressive, with Maza scoring Leverkusen's equaliser before assisting Patrik Schick's winning goal in the 2-1 victory.

Despite the reports, there has been no confirmed offer from PSG or evidence of formal negotiations between the clubs.

Sky Paints A Different Picture Of Maza's Future

While the French reports suggest PSG could make an aggressive move, Sky Sport Germany has provided a different perspective on the midfielder's situation.

According to Florian Plettenberg and his colleagues, Leverkusen has already opened discussions with Maza's representatives over a new contract.

The club want to improve his salary significantly and extend his existing agreement, which runs until June 2030.

Crucially, Maza is reportedly open to remaining at Die Werkself, where he feels comfortable and enjoys the confidence of the club's management.

Sky has also confirmed that several Premier League clubs are monitoring his development.

However, the broadcaster's published reporting does not establish PSG as an active negotiating party. The claim that Paris are determined to sign him therefore remains unconfirmed.

Leverkusen Have No Reason To Rush A Decision

Maza joined Leverkusen from Hertha BSC in the summer of 2025 for approximately €12 million and has developed into one of the club's most valuable young players.

His importance has only increased under Martínez, whose attacking system allows him to influence matches through creativity, movement and combinations with Patrik Schick.

For sporting director Simon Rolfes, retaining Maza would represent an important step towards building a competitive squad for the coming seasons.

Die Werkself are also in a strong negotiating position. With the midfielder under contract until 2030, there is no immediate pressure to consider a sale.

Interest from major European clubs is understandable given his performances, but speculation alone does not mean a transfer is approaching.

For now, the clearest development is Leverkusen's attempt to reward Maza with an improved contract and secure his long-term commitment.

Whether PSG eventually turn their reported admiration into a concrete approach remains to be seen.

From here the stage only gets bigger.
