A playful locker room culture fuels Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run, highlighted by Edmond Tapsoba’s humorous demand for praise during Ibrahim Maza’s post-match interview following the Freiburg victory.
Bayer Leverkusen's impressive run of form is producing smiles both on and off the pitch, with captain Edmond Tapsoba providing a hilarious moment after Sunday's 2-1 victory over SC Freiburg.
While Ibrahim Maza was speaking to reporters following the Bundesliga encounter, the defender unexpectedly interrupted the interview, demanding some recognition from his teammate.
The amusing exchange, reported by RP Online, offered a glimpse into the atmosphere inside Carles Martínez's dressing room, where confidence is growing following another important victory.
Tapsoba Interrupts Maza With Hilarious Demand
Maza was answering questions from journalists when Tapsoba suddenly shouted from the background.
"Say my name!"
The 20-year-old Algerian immediately understood the assignment and responded by showering his teammate with praise.
"Tapsoba is a big, incredible player, I love him. Thank you for everything,"
But Tapsoba wasn't finished.
The 27-year-old approached the interview area, prompting Maza to reassure him that he had only been saying positive things.
"I only said good things about you,"
Tapsoba responded with a playful question of his own.
"Can I trust you?"
The defender then disappeared towards the dressing room laughing, bringing an entertaining end to the exchange.
Maza Has Every Reason To Celebrate
The lighthearted moment followed another impressive individual performance from Maza, who played a decisive role in Leverkusen's comeback victory over Freiburg.
With the visitors taking an early lead through Derry Scherhant, Maza equalised in the 19th minute after being released by Patrik Schick.
The midfielder then returned the favour in the second half, setting up Schick's winning goal in the 76th minute.
His goal and assist helped Die Werkself end Freiburg's unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season and move level with their opponents on 13 points.
Maza's growing influence has been one of the most encouraging developments under Martínez, with the youngster increasingly becoming a central figure in Leverkusen's attacking play.
Leverkusen's Dressing Room Reflects Their Growing Confidence
Tapsoba's playful interruption may have been a small moment, but it reflected the positive atmosphere surrounding Die Schwarzroten.
Martínez has overseen seven victories in his first nine competitive matches, with the Werkself now unbeaten in seven consecutive games.
The team has also won five straight matches across all competitions, including important victories over RB Leipzig, Mainz, Lech Poznań and Freiburg.
While the performances on the pitch remain the priority, the chemistry between players such as Tapsoba and Maza suggests a squad enjoying its football.
For Martínez, maintaining that atmosphere could prove just as valuable as the results themselves as Leverkusen navigates a demanding Bundesliga and Europa League schedule.
And if the team's winning run continues, Tapsoba might have even more reasons to interrupt his teammates' interviews.
From here the stage only gets bigger.
