Borussia Dortmund have had a much better season this time around than the previous two, returning to being runners-up to champions Bayern Munich. But the aim now needs to be to bridge that gap between themselves and Bayern Munich, which stands at 16 points in the league, and Liverpool has a few players who could help achieve that.

Now, one of the key stats that Dortmund trail Bayern is goals, with Dortmund ranking 3rd overall for goals scored in the Bundesliga this season. Striker-wise, Guirassy scored 17 goals this season and has been a consistent goal scorer in Germany for years now. However, their system is crying out for more creativity, someone who can create something out of nothing, and Harvey Elliott could be that player. 

The attacking midfielder has had a really difficult season on loan at Aston Villa; he has come out of it with a Europa League, but effectively, he has wasted a year of his career, only playing 9 games across all competitions. But this had nothing to do with Elliott’s quality; this was because Villa didn’t want to make the move permanent, which would have happened had Elliott played 10 games for Villa. 

So next season, Liverpool will be looking to either loan him out again or sell him, and Dortmund could get a player like Elliott for a reasonable fee, an improvement on the departing Julian Brandt, who could help create more for the likes of Guirassy, while also producing moments of magic himself, which was shown at the youth level with England in the U21 Euros 2025.

Another position Dortmund could look to strengthen is at Center Back. With Niklas Sule retiring and Dortmund playing a 3 at the back formation this campaign, it's a position they will be looking to strengthen, and two players that could help them are Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni.

I do not expect Liverpool to allow both of them to leave, with it being impossible that Leoni, in particular, will be allowed to leave the club on a permanent transfer, but a loan for the young Italian centre-half could be a possible option for Borussia Dortmund. Leoni has been out for the majority of the season with an ACL injury, so Liverpool might look to loan him out to help build his fitness back up after a year out.

This signing would be a really good one for Dortmund; the issue is that there’s zero prospect of Liverpool agreeing to a permanent transfer for Leoni; it would only act as a 1-year cover for that position. Joe Gomez, on the other hand, would be allowed to leave Liverpool for a reasonable fee.

The issue that is attached to Gomez, however, is his injury record, an issue that has majorly hampered his Liverpool career overall. In the season just gone, he missed a total of 76 days due to injury, missing 8 games for Liverpool in that time and has not had an injury-free season in the last 5 years. But if you can somehow get a full season or even 75% of a season out of Joe Gomez, he could prove to be an immense signing for Borussia Dortmund, because there is no doubting his ability.

One final player Dortmund could go in for from Liverpool would be Stefan Bajcetic. Bajcetic had a breakout campaign under Jurgen Klopp in the 2022/23 season; however, ever since then, he has been hampered by a string of injuries. However, with it being likely he will return in time for pre-season, Dortmund could try and strike a deal with Liverpool, get Bajcetic in on loan, perhaps with an option to buy the young Spanish midfielder, and Liverpool could even include a buy-back option, as they have done with Jarell Quansah in the past.

This move, if Bajcetic can stay fit, could be incredible for both parties. It would allow Bajcetic to get his career back on track after a rough few years, and it would allow Dortmund to have a midfield two of Jobe Bellingham and Stefan Bajcetic, a midfield that could set them up for years to come and even bring in a large amount of money if they were to develop and be sold on for 2 or 3 times what they pay for him.
