The German striker was absent from Borussia Dortmund’s recent performance testing. This is due to the player’s move to Barcelona, anticipating the conclusion.
Karim Adeyemi’s Barcelona Move Nears Completion
Borussia Dortmund released a tweet with the information that Karim Adeyemi and Kjell Wätjen were absent from the performance diagnostics. The two players were excused due to talks with other clubs.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on the 10th June, the deal to sign Karim Adeyemi for Barcelona had been agreed. Kjell Wätjen, on the other hand, will be joining FC Midtjylland.
Adeyemi had received interest from multiple clubs this transfer window, including Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Overall Transfer Package
As reported by Florian Plettenberg and Patrick Berger, Borussia Dortmund will receive a total of €22 million fixed for Karim Adeyemi. There is also an additional €9 million in potential add-ons, taking the total to €31 million.
As well as the transfer fee, Borussia Dortmund has negotiated a 35% sell-on clause into the deal. So any sale of Karim Adeyemi from Barcelona will see some extra income for Borussia Dortmund.
Considering the hype and potential that surrounded Karim Adeyemi, it’s not the greatest of price tags. Especially taking into account that Dortmund had spent €30 million to secure his signature from RB Salzburg back in 2022.
Adeyemi will be joining Barcelona on a five-year deal. During his time at the Catalan club, he will be earning a net total of €6 million per season.
What Will Dortmund Be Losing?

Karim Adeyemi is still only 24 years old, so his prime years may be yet to come. Losing one of the club’s top scorers and assisters will reduce the output unless he can be replaced.
