The Foals are prepared to double the 17-year-old wonderkid's salary to ward off heavy interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen.

RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen could face a significant obstacle in their pursuit of Borussia Mönchengladbach wonderkid Wael Mohya, with the Foals reportedly working on an improved contract for the highly rated 17-year-old.

According to Sky Germany, Gladbach have opened talks over extending Mohya's current deal, which runs until June 2028, and are prepared to double his salary to approximately €2 million per year.

The development comes amid reported interest from Leipzig, Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, all of whom have been monitoring the attacking midfielder's rapid emergence this season.

Gladbach are determined to retain one of Germany's most promising young talents and appear ready to make a substantial financial commitment to keep him.

Gladbach Prepare Major Salary Increase

Mohya has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young players in the Bundesliga during the 2026/27 campaign.

The German youth international has featured in all nine of Gladbach's competitive matches this season, an impressive achievement for a player who is still only 17.

His breakthrough performance came against Stuttgart on Matchday 7, when he registered a goal and an assist to help Gladbach secure their first Bundesliga victory of the campaign.

The display highlighted his growing importance to Alexander Blessin's side, particularly his willingness to take responsibility in attacking situations.

Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder was particularly impressed by the youngster's confidence when carrying the ball forward and creating opportunities.

Blessin also praised Mohya's ability to escape pressure through individual actions, an important quality for a team that has struggled to consistently progress possession into dangerous areas.

The proposed contract extension would reward those performances while strengthening Gladbach's position ahead of potential transfer approaches.

Leipzig See Another Opportunity To Invest In Youth

For Leipzig, Mohya represents the type of emerging Bundesliga talent that fits the club's long-term recruitment strategy.

The Red Bulls have consistently targeted young players capable of developing into important first-team contributors, with Antonio Nusa, Tidiam Gomis and Brajan Gruda among the attacking talents currently competing under Martín Demichelis.

Mohya would offer a different option in the attacking midfield positions.

His most notable strength is his willingness to carry the ball directly towards defenders rather than immediately releasing possession. When opponents step forward to challenge him, he can use a quick change of direction to escape pressure and open a passing lane.

Against Stuttgart, that confidence translated into decisive attacking contributions rather than simply promising moments of individual skill.

However, the Red Bulls already have considerable competition for attacking positions, meaning a potential move would require a clear development plan and a realistic pathway to regular minutes.

Gladbach's proposed salary increase could also make negotiations more complicated, particularly if the club succeeds in extending Mohya's contract beyond 2028.

Leverkusen Must Consider Maza And Tillman's Roles

Leverkusen's interest raises a different question.

Carles Martínez already has Ibrahim Maza and Malik Tillman competing for opportunities in attacking midfield, with both players offering creative qualities and the ability to influence matches in advanced central areas.

Maza has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, contributing three goals and three assists in his opening ten appearances, while Tillman remains an important part of the squad's attacking rotation.

Signing Mohya would therefore add another young player to an already competitive position.

Die Werkself would need to determine whether the Gladbach youngster could earn sufficient playing time immediately or whether he would be recruited primarily as a longer-term investment.

There is currently no indication that either Maza or Tillman is certain to leave, although PSG's reported interest in Maza has already brought additional attention to Leverkusen's attacking midfield options.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with the 17-year-old, creating the possibility of a competitive Bundesliga transfer battle if Gladbach eventually become open to a sale.

Bayern could offer Mohya the opportunity to develop within one of Europe's most successful squads, although the competition for attacking positions would be considerable.

Dortmund, meanwhile, have a strong reputation for developing young attacking players and could present another attractive destination.

For Gladbach, the immediate priority is preventing that interest from developing into a departure.

Extending Mohya's contract would provide greater security and improve the club's negotiating position should an offer arrive in the future.

The proposed €2 million annual salary also demonstrates how highly Gladbach values the youngster after just nine competitive appearances this season.
