Martín Demichelis confronts his storied past at the Allianz Arena, seeking a statement victory as his rejuvenated Leipzig squad challenges Vincent Kompany’s clinical Bundesliga leaders.

RB Leipzig head coach Martín Demichelis is preparing for an emotional return to Bayern Munich on Saturday, but the Argentine has made it clear that sentiment will have no place once the match begins.

Demichelis spent 12 years associated with Bayern as a player and coach, making the Allianz Arena a familiar setting long before his appointment at Leipzig.

Now he returns as an opponent, looking to guide his team to a statement victory against the Bundesliga champions.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Demichelis acknowledged the importance of Bayern in his personal and professional development.

"FC Bayern shaped me over a total of 12 years as a player and later as a coach, and as a person too,"

He explained.

The 45-year-old admitted that returning to Munich would be a special occasion, particularly given the opportunity to reunite with familiar faces.

However, his competitive ambitions remain clear.

"Whilst I have the utmost respect for FC Bayern, I naturally want RB Leipzig to come out on top on Saturday."

Demichelis also reflected on fulfilling his ambition of managing in Germany's top flight, describing his current position at Leipzig as a source of considerable pride.

Kompany Praises His Former Manchester City Teammate

Saturday's encounter will also reunite Demichelis with Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, his former teammate at Manchester City.

The Belgian spoke positively about the Argentine's coaching credentials, highlighting his previous achievements and the tactical foundations he has established throughout his managerial career.

"He won the league title in Argentina, which isn't easy."

Kompany said.

The Bayern coach also recalled watching Demichelis' Mallorca side defeat Real Madrid, an example of the Argentine's ability to prepare his teams for difficult opponents.

Kompany believes Die Roten Bullen possess the stability required to establish themselves among Europe's strongest teams.

"If you're consistent in your work, eventually you'll make a breakthrough in Europe as well."

He added.

However, the Belgian was quick to underline the competitive nature of their reunion.

"But tomorrow we're opponents."

Vincent Kompany.

Leipzig Arrive With Growing Confidence

Demichelis returns to Munich with his team enjoying an encouraging run of results.

Leipzig followed their emphatic 6-0 Bundesliga victory over Eintracht Frankfurt with a 1-0 Champions League success against PSV Eindhoven.

Those performances have strengthened confidence within the squad ahead of a demanding sequence of fixtures that also includes a trip to Real Madrid.

For Demichelis, Saturday represents an opportunity to measure the Red Bulls' progress against the Bundesliga's strongest opposition.

A victory would carry particular significance, not only because of his Bayern connections but also because of what it would demonstrate about his team's development.

He returns to the Allianz Arena with respect for his former club, but determined to leave with three points.

From here the stage only gets bigger.
