A rising German star secures a crucial victory while a heroic penalty save preserves the clean sheet, proving Demichelis' resilient squad can thrive under intense European pressure.

Brajan Gruda enjoyed a night to remember as RB Leipzig defeated PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at the Red Bull Arena, with the German youngster scoring his first Champions League goal and Maarten Vandevoordt producing a decisive goalkeeping performance.

Martín Demichelis' side followed Saturday's emphatic 6-0 Bundesliga victory over Eintracht Frankfurt with a much tighter contest against the Dutch champions, securing three important points in their first home Champions League match of the season.

The victory required determination, a moment of attacking quality and a goalkeeper capable of delivering under pressure.

For the Red Bulls, it was another encouraging sign that the team is developing the resilience needed to compete at the highest level.

Gruda Delivers On His Biggest European Night

Gruda emerged as Leipzig's match-winner, scoring the only goal in what was also his first Champions League start.

The attacking midfielder admitted that the opening stages had been difficult, but RBL eventually found their breakthrough.

"It was my first Champions League start and my first Champions League goal. It was a really special feeling,"

Gruda said afterwards.

His performance earned praise from teammate Ridle Baku, who highlighted the youngster's technical ability and exceptional left foot.

For Demichelis, Gruda's contribution represents another positive development in a squad increasingly benefiting from the quality of its younger players.

The goal also demonstrated the importance of taking opportunities in tight European encounters, where a single decisive moment can separate victory from disappointment.

Vandevoordt Emerges As Leipzig's Hero

While Gruda provided the winning goal, Vandevoordt was equally important at the other end.

The Belgian goalkeeper produced an outstanding display, including a crucial penalty save that preserved Leipzig's advantage.

Baku admitted he had initially been confused by the penalty decision, but expressed his relief at having Vandevoordt behind him.

Demichelis was equally impressed.

"Maarten Vandevoordt was outstanding," the Leipzig coach declared, acknowledging that both goalkeepers had played important roles in a demanding contest.

Captain David Raum also praised the Belgian's contribution, emphasising how important his saves were in keeping Die Roten Bullen ahead.

It was another clean sheet at the Red Bull Arena, where Leipzig's defensive performances have become a major strength.

Leipzig Head To Bayern And Madrid With Renewed Confidence

The victory extends Leipzig's impressive home form and provides valuable momentum before two particularly demanding away fixtures.

Demichelis' side travel to face Bayern Munich before visiting Real Madrid in the Champions League, a sequence that will test whether their recent improvement can translate into results away from home.

"We've got two huge games coming up now, away in Munich and Madrid. We've got nothing to lose in those matches and a lot to gain,"

Demichelis said.

Raum believes the PSV victory has given the squad the confidence needed for those challenges.

"This win gives us momentum. We'll head to Munich full of confidence now,"

The captain explained.

The defender also acknowledged that Leipzig must find a better balance between their outstanding home performances and their results on the road.

After scoring six against Frankfurt, Die Roten Bullen showed a different side of their game against PSV.

They fought through difficult moments, relied on their goalkeeper when necessary and found the decisive goal through a young player enjoying the biggest night of his European career.

For Demichelis, those qualities could prove just as important as attacking brilliance in the weeks ahead.

From here the stage only gets bigger.
