Celtic and Rangers played out a draw at Ibrox at the weekend. It was the perfect showcase of how much both teams have struggled over the course of the season.
Celtic started the game extremely slow, which the Rangers were able to take advantage of. They scored two goals within the first 30 minutes and went into the break with that 2-0 lead intact.
Away at Ibrox, two goals down at the break, most Celtic fans would have given up hope of salvaging anything out of the game. Fortunately, Martin O'Neill's team were able to show their character after the break. Kieran Tierney and Reo Hatate, two club heroes, scored in the second half to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat.
That result will probably leave Hearts as the happiest team in Scotland, who saw both of their title rivals drop points. With not many games left in the league this season, Derek McInnes' side now have a real chance of going on and winning the Premiership.
No matter how this season ends, it is very clear that Celtic need to improve their squad in the summer. The same can be said about the Rangers. And it looks like both of them have a common transfer target.
According to Football Insider, Cameron Ashia is attracting interest from Celtic, Rangers and a number of English Championship clubs.
The 19-year-old English midfielder has impressed in League One this season. He has scored six goals and provided three assists in just 1068 minutes of football across all competitions.
Ashia's contract with Huddersfield Town is believed to be running out at the end of the campaign though. That means that the Hoops can sign him as a free agent, if he is not able to agree on an extension with his current team.
Huddersfield Town currently sit at sixth in the League One table. Promotion is still a possibility, but if they fail to get into the Championship, that would make Ashia's exit likelier. After all, there seems to be interest from some big-name clubs in his signature.
A move to one of the Glasgow giants would surely be tempting. He might not have a tough time finding a club in the English Championship either.
Of course, is he the type of player who can come in and immediately solve Celtic's problems? Probably not. He is going to be another project signing, and a lot of those have not worked out for the Hoops in recent times, which is why they have taken several steps back over the years.
