A former Celtic player appears to have become available for the summer transfer window but should a €12 million move be made?

In the recent past, we have seen Celtic bring back quite a few to the club. Brendan Rodgers returned for a second stint in 2023 when Ange Postecoglou left and while it produced two league titles, it was not the grand success most would have been hoping for, and ended with the Northern Irishman handing in his resignation earlier this season.

On the pitch, Jota was brought back from Rennes last year. Kieran Tierney and Ross Doohan were signed in the summer. There has also been speculation regarding moves for Kyogo and Andy Robertson lately.

Now, it is only a matter of time before another return rumour starts cropping up. It is inevitable after reports in Italy have emerged that Como FC are ready to part ways with Nicolas Kuhn, less than a year after signing him from Celtic for around €19 million.

According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, Kuhn will be on the market this summer. Estimates suggest he's now worth around €12 million.

Most Celtic fans will know it is just a matter of time before the club start being linked by the Scottish media with a move to bring back Kuhn. And to be fair, it is not hard to see why. One could argue that he is the only successful signing that the Hoops have made in the post-Postecoglou era. Signed for around £3 million, his exit 18 months later brought in more than five times that.

Also, at the Champions League level, he is one of Celtic's best players in the modern era. He scored a brace in their win against RB Leipzig last season and also found the back of the net against Bayern Munich, and was unlucky not to score another against the Bavarian giants.

At his best, there is no doubt that Kuhn is better than any winger that Celtic have currently.

That being said, it is worth remembering that it was only a six-month period. Kuhn struggled for form in his first and last six months at Celtic. So, was that merely a purple patch of form? Or was it the German winger at his best?

A €12 million move would be steep for a player who has scored just once since joining Como FC. If the price drops further, perhaps it would be worth considering the idea of a return. But the Hoops did spend around £10 million when they brought back Jota after his failed stints at Al-Ittihad and Rennes. So, this is the kind of stuff you cannot predict.

The Celtic board will be under pressure to deliver in the summer. Why not bring back a proven success story to Parkhead, who is still just 26 years old? That could very well be the thinking behind a move for Kuhn.
