Marcelo Saracchi Transfer Update is Bad News for Celtic cover image

The latest transfer update regarding Marcelo Saracchi is bad news for Celtic and their chances of signing him permanently.

One of the biggest complaints that Celtic fans have had regarding the club is their poor recruitment record. The Hoops have made a number of signings, whether on a permanent basis or on loan. But most of them have not been able to make a positive impact on the team.

One of the rare bright spots this season has been the performances of Marcelo Saracchi. The left-back was signed on loan from Boca Juniors in the summer.

The club needed a quality cover option at left-back due to Kieran Tierney's poor fitness track record. Greg Taylor would have been perfect for the role but the long-term Celtic defender decided to leave at the end of his contract and head to Greece.

Saracchi turned out to be his replacement. And when fit and available, he has impressed with his performances.

Multiple people, including Martin O'Neill, have suggested that the club consider signing Saracchi on a permanent basis. But now, it looks like there could be a major hurdle on that path.

Saracchi's performances seem to have caught the eye of clubs other than Celtic as well, which is bad news for their chances of signing him on a permanent basis from Boca Juniors in the summer.

According to The Celtic Way, the club face strong competition from Brazil and elsewhere in Europe to sign Saracchi permanently this summer.

It is not hard to see why other clubs might be interested in signing Saracchi. Yes, he has had his injury problems, which have limited his availability over the course of the season. But when on the pitch, he has done pretty well. In fact, some feel that he has been better than Tierney and should be getting more consistent playing time.

On the other hand, it is very possible that Saracchi might be tempted by the idea of a move away as well. At Celtic, the expectation is that he will remain a backup option to Tierney, even if he joins on a permanent basis in the summer. A starting spot might be available at the other clubs that are interested in signing him.

In the scenario that Saracchi leaves, Celtic would once again need to go out and sign a left-back. And given their track record, it is probable that he won't be as good as the Uruguayan international. So, the best-case scenario for the Hoops would be him staying on beyond his loan spell. Let's see if that ends up happening.
