Rangers have finally made a long-awaited announcement regarding an upcoming game against Celtic at Ibrox.

Celtic FC Roundtable Round-up: O'Neill defends Schmeichel, Graham Potter to Celtic?

The defeat at the hands of Hibernian has left Celtic in a bad position. Martin O'Neill had been able to squeeze results out of this team, but those keeping an eye on the performances would not have been surprised that the house of cards came crashing down at the weekend.

The fact of the matter is that Celtic have been nowhere near good enough throughout the season. The squad needs an overhaul in the summer. Before that, they need to find a way to win some silverware this season.

The next couple of weeks will be vital in this regard. Celtic's next matchup is against VfB Stuttgart, but in all likelihood, that tie is as good as over after the Hoops lost 4-1 at home in the first leg.

The more important matchups are the double visits to Ibrox coming up next month. The first will be in the league. Whoever loses might as well bid their title hopes goodbye. The second will be in the Scottish Cup. And there is some good news for Celtic regarding this game.

For a while, there had been speculation that Celtic were set to be handed a significantly higher allocation for the game due to Scottish Cup rules. Now, that has been officially confirmed.

Rangers have put out a statement confirming that Celtic will be allocated the Broomloan Stand for their Scottish Cup fixture.

At the same time, they also confirmed that league allocations will remain as previously agreed between the two clubs.

This will mark the first time in years that Celtic will have that kind of an allocation available at Ibrox. For those who have missed the atmosphere of Glasgow derbies of the past, this could turn out to be a great throwback to savour. And who knows, it could be the beginning of change in the long run.

One would imagine that it will be an immediate confidence booster for the team, who need every little help that they can at this moment to get over the finish line. Having the Broomloan Stand full of Celtic fans could help in that goal.

For now, all we can do is focus on what lies ahead and hope for the best. Neither Celtic nor Rangers have been anywhere near their best this season, but somehow, both remain in the mix for silverware. A lot could be decided over those two matches at Ibrox next month.
