On Saturday afternoon, Chelsea made it four straight league wins to begin the Liam Rosenior era with a 3-1 victory away to bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers.
All three goals came from Cole Palmer, despite the 23-year old admitting he is not fully fit when interviewed after the game. All three of his goals came in the first half, meaning he has now scored hat-tricks (or more) in three different first halves since joining the Blues.
As a reward for his performance, Palmer has been named the Premier League Player of the Matchweek for gameweek 25 of the season.
This is the third time a Chelsea player has won the award this season, after Moises Caicedo did so on match days seven and ten, for his performances in wins against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.
For this one, Palmer overcame competition from former Chelsea teammate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, now at Everton, as well as Illia Gruev of Leeds United, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, Dango Ouattara of Brentford, Martin Zubimendi of Arsenal, and Crysencio Summerville of West Ham United.
The Chelsea man won 39% of the vote, with his closest challenger winning 19%, so it was pretty conclusive. Some may scoff at the two penalties and the level of opponent, but you can only beat and score against what is in front of you.
In general, it was an improved performance from the number 20, who is still getting fully match fit. Aside from the goals, he also had 43 touches, carried the ball 138.9m, completed his one take in the game, and all just in 61 minutes on the pitch, before being taken off for Alejandro Garnacho and given some much-deserved rest.
Having the luxury of taking Palmer off after an hour cannot be overstated. It allows him to start more games during the busy schedule, particularly the ones of utmost importance.
So far this season, the attacking midfielder has only played 1075 minutes. Chelsea were without his services for large parts of the first half of the season, and this mustn't be repeated for the second half of the season, particularly as we enter the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
You can tell that he is enjoying himself under Rosenior, saying as much in one of his post-game pressers at the weekend, as he appeared to take a bit of a dig at his former manager, Enzo Maresca, in the process.
