It's safe to say that match day 26 of the Premier League season was very frustrating for Chelsea. Despite being 2-0 up and cruising at home to Leeds United, the visitors managed to come back and snatch a 2-2 draw.
A mix of horrific defending and VAR controversy was at fault for the equaliser, whilst the two goal scorers were ultimately at fault for a winner not being found. Two minutes into stoppage time, Joao Pedro failed to score from close range, before Cole Palmer missed from even closer range, somehow firing a 0.91xG effort over the bar.
Another frustrating element to the evening was Moises Caicedo picking up another yellow card in the 98th minute for an argument. Completely and entirely unnecessary and not a great look for him.
So, the 24-year-old is now walking a tightrope when it comes to a two-game suspension. He will have to avoid two yellow cards across the following games: Burnley (H), Arsenal and Aston Villa (A), Newcastle United (H), Everton (A), and Manchester City (H). If the tenth yellow is vs City, he would miss Manchester United (H), as well as Brighton & Hove Albion (A).
You'd think avoiding two yellow cards in six games is easy enough to navigate, but Caicedo has picked up two bookings in the last three games, so who knows. As good as he is, this is not something new for him.
In the final game of 2025, and Enzo Maresca's last game in charge, he needed to avoid a yellow card against AFC Bournemouth to avoid being suspended for Manchester City away. He was booked in the first five minutes.
Plus, the red card at home to Arsenal. We know that being aggressive is in his game, and it is part of why he is so good, but it gets to a point where he needs to be more conscious of how he controls his aggression. He was also sent off for Ecuador against Argentina back in September.
The aforementioned Palmer miss in the 94th minute was actually set up by Caicedo, after a great overlapping run and low cross into the box. His last contribution of the game should have been that, not a yellow card. Of course, the Palmer miss was not his fault, and it was great work - it's just very frustrating how that was not taken, minutes before then picking up a yellow.
Burnley at home could be a game to earmark as rest for the midfielder. He was rested for the reverse fixture in November, which Chelsea won 2-0, with Enzo Fernandez scoring and Andrey Santos playing very well.
