Bayern Munich targets young Chelsea defender, sparking potential summer swap talks for Kim Min-jae.

The winter transfer window is well underway. In fact, we are much closer to its conclusion than to its beginning. Although there have been busier winter windows, there have still been a few interesting deals happening across the league.

Although Chelsea have, perhaps surprisingly, not been involved in these deals, the club will have received a sell-on fee for the transfer that saw Conor Gallagher swap Atlético Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur.

As it stands, it seems that the club are looking at the market in anticipation of the summer transfer window, with a view to making signings then. Liam Rosenior's side have been linked with Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, as well as Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich.

The latter transfer is certainly interesting now. Indeed, as it appears, there could be a player going the other way. According to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, the German giants are interested in Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong.

According to the journalist, Bayern are prepared to wait until the summer - but have not ruled out an attempt to try and bring the defender to Germany before the end of the current window. He states that sources at Chelsea have stressed they want to keep the defender.

This is certainly something to keep an eye on. If nothing happens this month, could we see a possible swap deal in the summer? The value would be fascinating to see. Kim has a much bigger resume at the top level, but is also 10 years Acheampong's senior.

It would be a shame for Chelsea to lose such a talent. As Steinberg notes, the 19-year-old is a versatile defender who has played at centre-back, right-back, left-back, and even in midfield.

Although there is no doubt that Kim is a very good and experienced defender, most fans would rather pursue the long-term vision of having Acheampong, even though there is no guarantee he will eventually reach the same levels.

Back in 2019, Bayern signed Jamal Musiala from Chelsea for a low six-figure fee, and we have seen the heights he has gone on to reach since then. That was a different case - the 22-year-old is German and would have liked a move back home, and had never featured for the Chelsea first team, unlike Acheampong.

Nevertheless, there will be a subconscious or otherwise fear that there could be similar fate if the youngster was to stop West London for Munich. Perhaps worth keeping track of any developments.
