With five points separating Czechia and Mexico, both teams are in contrasting scenarios following two rounds of drama.

Mexico seemed to have dominated the group; Javier Aguirre's men have won two from two, scoring three goals in the process, and have subsequently cemented their qualification to the round of 32.

Czechia has been underwhelming this tournament, a side that qualified dramatically, narrowly beating Ireland and Denmark in the playoff rounds of World Cup qualification. But their luck seems to have run dry of late.

For Mexico, a routine win is in order to cement their place as real contenders in their home competition. But with the pressure from Czechia, who seek qualification with a win tonight, the outcome of this match is far from decided.

Czechia rely underwhelming attack

What we've learned from the first four games of Group A is that this group is one of the tightest in the tournament. Despite Mexico being clear favourites, expected runners-up South Korea have failed to impress so far, and underdogs South Africa are fighting for survival in this competition.

Czechia remains somewhat of a middle ground. Mirsolav Koubek's side were deemed good enough to qualify for the knockout rounds, whether that be through a routine second-place or as one of the possible third-place teams.

As it stands, the European team needs a win against group leaders Mexico to have a chance of qualifying, yet even with that win, qualification is not guaranteed.

Koubek will likely start the favoured players, such as Validmir Coufal, who's been impressive on the right so far, and will almost certainly keep his place. Despite his poor start, star player Patrick Schick should remain in the starting eleven.

Fans expect Tomas Soucek to make a return to the starting eleven, after his dismissal due to a lacklustre first group stage game; his excellence in the midfield was a miss against South Africa.

Michal Sadílek should warrant a start again tonight. He was the reason Czechia gained its first point at the 2026 World Cup with a stellar goal just six minutes into the fixture with South Africa.

One player confirmed to miss this game is defender David Jurasek, according to SportsMole. He sustained a thigh injury during training and will miss the rest of the tournament for Koubek's men.

The importance of this game is not lost on Czechia; their World Cup dreams rely on a team that has been underperforming to obtain a win against host nation Mexico. The stakes have never been higher for Koubek and his team, but will they rise to the occasion?

Mexico aims to go unbeaten

Group A seems to be a group dominated by one team, though many pundits did not predict one of the three host nations, Mexico, to be quite so dominant.

Their World Cup campaign kicked off with an eventful win against South Africa, a repeat of the 2010 World Cup opening game, but Mexico were victorious this time, and did so in fine fashion.

Julián Quiñones has been the star man for Mexico; his goal against Bafana just nine minutes got the ball rolling for El Trí, and Mexico looked to dominate in that game from then on.

Raúl Jiminez has also been exceptional for Aguirre's side. At 35 years old, he leads the line for Mexico, scoring the second goal against South Africa.

Both players could be sceptable to Aguirre's surprising history of squad rotation. Mexico has cemented its place in the round of 32 and may look to rest some starters to keep them fresh for the more important fixture early next week.

Therefore, AC Milan striker Santiago Giménez could feature for the second time at the World Cup tonight. Despite an underwhelming season with Milan, his ability should be enough to push for a start, but he's only played ten minutes at this tournament.

One player Mexico fans are dying to see more of is Gilberto Mora, who could also feature tonight. With 24 minutes under his belt, he's the youngest player to feature at this World Cup, and will hope to gain a place in the starting eleven in this tie to prove himself for future games.

Cesar Montés has served his suspension and will be available for selection tonight, but he'll struggle to regain a place in Aguirre's team after an excellent performance by Edson Álvarez, who captained the side against South Korea.

Mexico will hope to improve on a dull 1-0 win against South Korea tonight, and impress home fans at their home event, but pressure from Czechia may prove to be more of a challenge than the previous two games.
