Ajax are far from done in the transfer market, and could sign up to five more new players should Mika Godts leave.
It has been a very busy summer so far for Ajax, with Jordi Cruijff working hard to build a squad that can challenge for the Eredivisie title in the coming season.
Ajax have completed the signings of Caio Henrique, Daley Blind, Marcos Leonardo, Tolu Arokodare and Julian Brandt. The Amsterdammers are now also very close to completing a deal to sign Marc-André ter Stegen from Barcelona on a one-year loan deal.
Michel has also said that Ajax need to sign a no. 6 this summer, and Ajax are working on a deal to sign Edson Álvarez from West Ham United.
Mika Godts could potentially leave, with Paris Saint-Germain pushing hard to sign the Belgian winger. The Parisians have agreed personal terms with Godts and made an opening offer to Ajax worth around €45 million, including bonuses. Ajax are seeking €60 million, but it is expected the clubs will reach an agreement soon.
Ajax target up to five more signings if Godts leave
Should Godts leave Ajax, the club is expected to be very busy in the final weeks of the transfer window.
According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, in the event of Godts' departure, Ajax will target at least four, possibly even five, new signings: two defenders, a defensive midfielder, and two attackers.
The report also claims that Noa Lang is being seriously considered by Ajax as a potential replacement for Godts, but it remains to be seen whether he is at the top of their list.
Verweij also reports that Godts' departure would make Álvarez's arrival more realistic.
Ajax are also prepared to sell Josip Sutalo, Kasper Dolberg, Ko Itakura and Owen Wijndal, should suitable offers be made.
Who are Ajax targeting to strengthen the defence?
Ajax have already signed Blind and Henrique, but as stated above, the club could target two more defenders this summer.
Ajax are reportedly very keen on Barcelona left-back Jofre Torrents, and are reportedly interested in signing the 19-year-old on a loan with an option to buy.
Ajax have also been linked to FC Twente right-back Bart van Rooij, with ESPN reporting that Ajax hope to reach an agreement with Twente, despite finding their €10 million excessive.
Signing Van Rooij, or a different right back, could be dependent on Anton Gaaei leaving. Eintracht Frankfurt were working on a deal to sign the Danish full-back, but that deal doesn't seem to be progressing, as things stand.
With Blind, Youri Baas, Dies Janse and Aaron Bouwman, Ajax have enough options in central defence and are therefore probably unlikely to sign a player in that position. Ajax also have Ahmetcan Kaplan and Sutalo, although both have been linked with moves away from Amsterdam this summer.
Various reports claim that Benfica could make a move for Sutalo. The Portuguese giants have been very interested in Sutalo for a while now and are in the market for a replacement for Antonio Silva, who has joined AFC Bournemouth.
