Ronald de Boer has compared Abdellah Ouazane to Jude Bellingham.

How good can Abdellah Ouazane become?More Videos

Abdellah Ouazane has had a very promising start to the 2026/27 season, having already made 15 appearances for Ajax in all competitions.

Most of those appearances have come as a substitute, but he has started a few games. He has played predominantly on the left wing, although he regularly played in more central areas for Jong Ajax.

Ouazane has scored once and registered three assists in all competitions so far this season and also made his debut for Morocco, coming on as a substitute for the Atlas Lions against Gabon in a 2-0 win.

Ouazane's contract at Ajax runs until June 2028. He came very close to joining Real Madrid in 2025, but that transfer fell through. Various reports claim that the La Liga giants are still monitoring his progress and that they could, in the future, revisit the possibility of signing Ouazane.

De Boer compares Ouazane to Bellingham

Speaking to Voetbal International, Ronald de Boer compared Ouazane to Bellingham in terms of their playing style.

"I wouldn't say they are equally good, but I certainly see similarities in style," De Boer said when comparing Ouazane and Bellingham.

De Boer also likes that Ouazane, in addition to being a great player, is very self-critical, and cited the game against Heerenveen as an example of that.

"Abdellah is an exceptional talent. Good things come quickly, and good enough is old enough.

"But what I like about Abdellah is this: he simply has a good head on his shoulders; he is self-critical. Before he scored that world-class goal against Heerenveen, he lost possession four or five times, and you could see it in him: I'm not going to celebrate exuberantly. That says something about his character," De Boer said.

De Boer also praised Ouazane for his football intelligence.

"With Abdellah, it is all about football. When you talk about football intelligence...There is a thought behind everything. Of course, it is sometimes impulsive, but it is of a very high standard," De Boer explained.

Ouazane needs to start regularly

Ouazane needs to start games regularly for Ajax. Oscar Gloukh has started the majority on the left wing in the majority of Ajax's game, but he is quite inconsistent and his end product lets him down regularly.

It was thought Simon Adingra would be Ajax's first choice left winger, but he has only made one appearance for the club since moving to Ajax from Sunderland on a season-long loan, as he continues to work towards full fitness.

Henrique is currently injured, but the left-back and Ouazane complement each other very well. Ouazane can hold the width, but he likes to move into more central areas, as he often played as aNo.. 10 for Jong Ajax.

By having a left-back like Henrique who can hold the width, Ouazane would then be able to operate in the half-spaces and central areas, where he is at his best. Having Brandt and Ouazane in the team together provides Ajax with two players who have the quality to help score against compact low blocks. They are both creative, good in small spaces and capable of scoring goals.

Owen Wijndal is also a very forward-thinking full-back, but he often likes to make underlapping runs and operate in the left-half space, exactly where Ouazane needs to play. They therefore do not complement each other very well.
