Having signed seven players already this summer, Ajax are targeting potentially another four signings before the window closes.

Before pursuing further signings, Ajax need to make the squad smaller and reduce the wage bill. Ajax would have liked to keep Mika Godts, but the money earned from his transfer will help Ajax strengthen other areas of the squad.

Ahmetcan Kaplan is now also set to join NEC Nijmegen on a permanent transfer after spending last season on loan there. Josip Sutalo could also leave, with Lazio showing a strong interest in the Croatian defender. Benfica and Fulham have also registered an interest.

Ajax also want to sell Owen Wijndal after selling Jofre Torrents. Oliver Edvardsen and Kasper Dolberg are also players Ajax would like to sell if suitable offers arrive.

Another player whom Ajax have wanted to sell is Ko Itakura, and his former club, Borussia Mönchengladbach, have now agreed a deal with the Amsterdammers to sign the Japanese defender.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga club will pay Ajax a fee of €3,5 million, and that could rise to €4 million if all bonuses are reached.

Ajax have also included a sell-on clause in the deal, and Itakura will sign a contract in Germany till 2030. The 29-year-old defender will undergo his medical on Wednesday.

While Plettenberg reports the fee could reach a maximum of €4 million, reports in the Netherlands claim that the fee is slightly higher. According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, the deal which has been agreed between the two clubs is actually worth €5 million, including all potential bonuses.

Having now agreed deals to sell both Itakura and Kaplan, it is likely Ajax will sign a centre-back before the transfer window closes if Sutalo also leaves, which is currently looking quite likely.

Ajax explored a deal to sign Lutsharel Geertruida from RB Leipzig on loan, but the Dutch defender is now set to join Ajax's rivals PSV Eindhoven on a season-long loan deal, with the option to buy.

If Ajax do sign a defender, it will probably be towards the end of the window, as they have bigger priorities. 

Ajax are working to sign Noa Lang from Napoli to replace Godts, but faces strong competition from Galatasaray. A right-winger is also on the agenda, as well as a defensive midfielder.

Ajax wanted to sign Edson Álvarez, but he will likely not return to Amsterdam this summer. It is unclear exactly who is at the top of Ajax's list for the No. 6 position now.
