FC Porto have enquired an Ajax star, with the Amsterdammers prepared to sell if the price is right.

Ajax have rebuilt their defensive line this summer, and there may be more changes to come before the transfer window closes on 2 September.

Ajax have signed Jofre Torrents and Caio Henrique to strengthen the left-back position. Reports this summer also claimed Ajax wanted a right-back, but that is not a position Ajax is actively looking to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

Ajax also re-signed Daley Blind, with the defender returning to Amsterdam on a free transfer from Girona for his third spell with Ajax. Dies Janse has also returned to Ajax following a successful season on loan at FC Groningen.

Ajax have also sold multiple players in the centre-back position. Josip Sutalo has moved to Lazio on a loan deal, with the Serie A club also having the option to make the transfer permanent next summer. Ahmetcan Kaplan also moved to NEC Nijmegen on a permanent transfer after spending last season there on loan, while Ko Itakura returned to Borussia Mönchengladbach after a turbulent time in Amsterdam.

Ajax are also in the market for a new right-footed centre-back. Aaron Bouwman is the only centre-back of that profile Ajax have. Blind, Janse and Youri Baas are all left-footed.

Porto keen on Baas

Another centre-back who could leave Ajax this summer is Youri Baas. Michel Sanchez has said that he wants to keep Baas, but reports claim that Ajax would be open to selling him. Baas started on the bench against Telstar on Sunday.

Baas is reportedly attracting interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, but Francesco Farioli's FC Porto are also reportedly keen on Baas. However, a move to Porto is now unlikely.

According to Voetbal International, FC Porto contacted Ajax regarding Youri Baas. If the price was right, the Amsterdammers were willing to cooperate, but Porto's proposal was insufficient for Ajax to accept.

Baas was open to joining Porto, but he is also on Frankfurt's shortlist.

Ajax must replace Baas if he leaves

If Baas does leave Ajax in the coming days before the transfer window closes, Ajax must replace him with a right-footed centre-back.

Aaron Bouwman is Ajax's only right-footed centre-back, and while he is talented, he is still young and has weaknesses in his game. Ajax need an experienced option in that position.

It is unknown exactly who Ajax are targeting for that position, but Jordi Cruijff did try to sign Lutsharel Geertruida before he moved to PSV Eindhoven, which may give a hint as to the kind of profile Ajax are looking at.
