Last summer, Ajax brought Kasper Dolberg back to Amsterdam, signing him from Belgian side Anderlecht. Unfortunately, though, till now, Dolberg's return to the club has not gone to plan.

Dolberg struggled for form last season, and Jordi Cruijff decided to sign two new strikers in the summer. Ajax signed Marcos Leonardo from Al Hilal and Tolu Arokodare from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan, and the Amsterdammers also have the option to sign the Nigerian forward on a permanent deal next summer.

While Dolberg did struggle last season, the environment at Ajax was also very unstable. Ajax had three managers last season and struggled for consistency throughout the season. At the start of this season in UEFA Conference League qualifying, though, Dolberg's performances continued to be unconvincing.

However, in Ajax's last three games, the Danish forward has started to find form. He came on as a substitute against Fortuna Sittard and scored. He then started against Willem II, scoring another goal and getting two assists. He kept his place in the starting line-up against Excelsior and assisted Julian Brandt's goal.

Tolu has been excellent so far this season. He was sick and therefore hasn't started Ajax's last couple of games, but made an immediate impact when he came on against Excelsior, scoring two minutes after coming on to draw Ajax level. Michel likely sees him as the first-choice striker, as things stand. Leonardo, however, has struggled so far this season and has not played a single minute in Ajax's last three games, with Michel Sanchez instead choosing to play Dolberg.

While Dolberg has finally just started to find form again, the Danish FA have confirmed that he has suffered a knee injury and will be out for an extended period of time. He has left Denmark's national team training camp.

Danish full-back Alexander Bah has also withdrawn, and he will be replaced by Ajax's Anton Gaaei.

Denmark will play four games during the international break. They will face Norway, Portugal, and Wales twice.

While Dolberg's injury will frustrate Ajax, especially as he has just finally started to find form again, Ajax have two quality strikers in Tolu and Leonardo, and therefore should be able to manage without Dolberg while he is sidelined.

Tolu will likely start for Ajax after the international break following his impressive start at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Leonardo has struggled, but he is making the right runs and getting into great scoring positions. Once he finds confidence again, he will become a very important player for Michel.
