Kapser Dolberg produced an excellent performance against Willem II in Ajax's 5-1 win on Tuesday night. 

Ajax signed two strikers during the summer. Marcos Leonardo was signed from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for a transfer fee of just under €20 million. Ajax then signed Tolu Arokodare from English club Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan with an option to buy. These two signings raised questions over Dolberg's future at the club.

According to various reports, Ajax were open to selling Dolberg during the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Tolu and Leonardo. Lille and FC Midtjylland both reportedly showed interest in the Danish forward, but a transfer failed to materialise.

Tolu has made an excellent start to this season and is seemingly Ajax's first-choice striker as things stand. In the last two games, against Fortuna Sittard and Willem II, Michel Sanchez opted to play Dolberg instead of Leonardo.

Against Fortuna Sittard, Dolberg came on as a substitute and scored, while Leonardo remained on the bench for the entire 90 minutes. Dolberg then followed that up with two assists and a goal against Willem II. He is now finding form after having a difficult first year back in Amsterdam.

In his post-match press conference following Ajax's comprehensive win against Willem II, Michel praised Dolberg's performance.

"I am very happy with his contribution to this team," Michel said, speaking on Dolberg.

"We are doing our best to be much more aggressive and goal-oriented with the strikers in front of the goal. He is a fantastic player.

"We have spoken to him a lot about dropping back far from the penalty area; during the build-up, he is allowed to move into the box more.

"But despite his reputation as a cool customer or a quiet guy, he simply remains a fantastic attacker who can bring us a lot.'

Leonardo has had a difficult start to his time at Ajax. His movement has been good, and he has regularly got into great positions to score goals, but he is clearly lacking confidence in front of goal.

With game time, that confidence can be rebuilt. His data during his time at Al Hilal shows that he was a fairly good finisher. 

Leonardo's main problem now is that there are two players in his position who are in better form than him.

Tolu has scored five goals and picked up two assists in just eight games in all competitions for Ajax. He is dominant in duels; he holds up the ball very well, and he can link play. He can control the ball with his chest, and his first touch is brilliant. He can also create chances in the penalty box by laying the ball off to his teammates. 

The Nigerian forward offers Ajax so much, and as long as he is in form, he will probably start the majority of games.

Dolberg is a different profile, but he is good on the ball, can drop deep to link play and pull opposition centre-backs out of position to create space for his teammates.

Leonardo still has enough time to turn his situation around. He has to keep working hard in training and, when he does get a chance again, make sure he takes it.
