Sofyan Amrabat has praised Abdellah Ouazane and believes the youngster can go far.
Abdellah Ouazane has had a very good start to the 2026/27 season, despite only playing a limited number of minutes.
Ouazane made his senior debut for Ajax last season, but that was his only appearance of the season. He has already made 12 appearances for Ajax in all competitions this season, starting on three occasions.
Ouazane has mainly played in more central positions for Jong Ajax, but Michel Sanchez has predominantly used him as a left winger so far this season.
He scored a fantastic goal against SC Heerenveen in a 2-2 draw, and also registered three assists in UEFA Conference League qualifying.
Following his strong start to the season, Ouazane was called up to the Moroccan national team and made his debut, coming on as a substitute against Gabon in a 2-0 win for Morocco.
Amrabat expects Ouazane to go far
Sofyan Amrabat joined Ajax at the end of the summer transfer window and has seemingly been very impressed by what he has seen from Ouazane so far.
In an interview with Voetbal International, Sofyan Amrabat explained why he believes Ouazane can go very far.
"Appie is a great player with a really good mentality. So I think he can go really, really far," Amrabat said, speaking on Ouazane's potential.
"From what I have seen so far, in my opinion, he has everything it takes to play at the top level. I know a bit about what is required: he is of good height, strong, fast, able to run, technically sound, and has a good head on his shoulders.
"If he keeps both feet on the ground, which I expect, because he is a quiet guy, then he can go very far."
Ajax need to extend Ouazane's contract
In the summer of 2025, Ouazane came very close to making a transfer to Real Madrid. He, however, failed his medical and ended up extending his contract at Ajax. His current deal at the Johan Cruijff ArenA runs until June 2028.
There have been rumours that Real Madrid are preparing to reignite their interest in Ouazane, and with only two years left on his contract, some of Europe's top clubs will likely be closely monitoring his situation.
Ajax must therefore try to extend Ouazane's contract before the season ends in order to ensure he stays longer and also to protect his value.
If Ajax do not extend his contract before the season ends, Ajax may have to sell for a low price next summer as he will only have one year left on his contract at that point.
Ajax are building an exciting project, and Ouazane can play a crucial role over the next few years in leading the club back to the top of Dutch football.
While he has not started many games so far this season, it is likely only a matter of time before he sees his game time increase if he keeps up his current performances. His ability to play in multiple positions should hopefully make it easier for Michel to find a place for him in the team.
