Ajax secured an impressive 1-5 victory against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday night.

Michel Sanchez would have wanted to see his team bounce back immediately after the disappointing defeat to PSV Eindhoven last week, and his players did just that. Fortuna Sittard had won both of their last two games and were in good form, making Ajax's win all the more impressive.

Danny Buijs' team were defensively very well organised in the opening stages of the game, and it took Ajax a while to find the breakthrough against Fortuna's deep and compact block. After 35 minutes, though, that breakthrough finally came as Julian Brandt put Ajax ahead with an excellent finish. The German midfielder has now scored four goals in all competitions this season for Ajax.

The hosts found an equaliser in the early stages of the second half through a goal from Anthony Descotte. Ajax's lead was restored around 10 minutes later through Thilo Kehrer, which was the German's first goal in an Ajax shirt.

After that, Ajax pushed on to secure a commanding victory. Davy Klaassen made it 1-3 before Kasper Dolberg scored Ajax's fourth of the evening shortly after. In the 96th minute, Youri Baas scored Ajax's fifth and final goal of the evening.

Steven Berghuis has shared his thoughts on Ajax's performance on Saturday night in a post-match interview with ESPN.

"It was simply a good win. We had good spells during the match. We also did what the game demanded," Berghuis explained.

"Fortuna either plays a high one-on-one press or sits in a very deep block. We wanted them to drop into a deep block so that we could get our attacking game going.

"We certainly managed to do that enough. There were plenty of positives to take away. You had Viktor Tsygankov coming off the bench well, and Dolberg scoring a goal. I think there are a lot of good things to build on following the defeat against PSV.

"We were well-prepared regarding when to accelerate and which spaces to attack. The coach had briefed us on that this week, and I think we executed it really well."

Oliver Edvarsen started against Fortuna Sittard, but struggled to offer Ajax much throughout the game. Edvardsen is good at making runs in behind and is good in attacking transitions. Fortuna Sittard's game plan, which was to sit in a deep block, therefore meant this kind of game did not suit Edvardsen.

As Berghuis said, Fortuna Sittard sometimes press high, with a man-to-man approach. Michel Sanchez therefore may have started Edvarsen, as he could have been influential had Fortuna Sittard opted for that approach. A man-to-man high press means there is often space behind to attack.

That being said, it was quite probable that Buijs would have implemented a very defensive approach given the quality that Ajax have.

Abdellah Ouazane should have started on the left wing. The Moroccan youngster has looked very promising in the minutes he has played so far this season and also has the qualities to help break down a low block. He has quality in small spaces, and as seen against SC Heerenveen, he is a player who can score impressive goals from distance. Against a low block, it often takes a moment of brilliance to score a goal. Ouazane has the ability to create that moment of brilliance.
