Ajax secured a 0-4 victory against Telstar on Sunday afternoon at the BUKO Stadion.

Davy Klaassen scored Ajax's first of the game in the 37th minute. Telstar began the second half well, but Steven Berghuis doubled the Amsterdammers' lead right before the hour mark to swing the momentum back in Ajax's favour.

Tolu Arokodare made it 0-3 minutes after Berghuis' goal. The Nigerian striker, who is on loan at Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers, has now scored four goals and registered two assists in all competitions for Ajax so far this season.

Marcos Leonardo, who was brought on for the final 17 minutes of the game, scored Ajax's fourth and final goal of the afternoon. That goal was Leonardo's first of the season in the Eredivisie.

#1: Only a matter of time before Leonardo finds form

Leonardo has come under a lot of criticism in the early stages of the season. Many have very high expectations of the Brazilian striker after he moved to Amsterdam this summer from Saudi-Arabian club Al Hilal for a fee in the region of €20 million.

He has missed a lot of big chances, but the positive thing about that is he is constantly getting into great goal-scoring positions, and he did that once again against Telstar.

He overperformed his xG (expected goals) in the Saudi Pro League during his time at Al Hilal. He is a good finisher who is simply lacking confidence right now. When he rediscovers that confidence, he will become a crucial player for Michel Sanchez.

#2: Ajax need to keep Berghuis

Berghuis scored one goal for Telstar and assisted on two of Ajax's goals. There have been rumours that Ajax would be happy to let him leave, but he must stay.

Ajax have signed Viktor Tsyhankov from Girona, and he will likely start the majority of games for Ajax on the right wing. However, Ajax will play a lot of games this season if they go far in the UEFA Conference League, and they must keep Berghuis for depth. He is still good enough to shine in games against teams lower down the Eredivisie table.

Maher Carrizo is also expected to join FC Copenhagen on loan, which makes it even more important that Ajax keep Berghuis so that Michel has options on the right wing.

#3: Ajax are still defensively vulnerable

While 0-4 is a convincing win, Telstar certainly had the chances to score a few goals.

According to FotMob, Telstar had two big chances and accumulated an xG (expected goals) of 1.13.

Ajax also conceded five goals across the two games against FC Sion and looked very poor defensively in the away game against Shelbourne FC.

While Telstar failed to take their chances, there will be better teams Ajax will play this season who do take their chances. Michel will be hoping that the signing of Sofyan Amrabat in defensive midfield will improve Ajax from a defensive point of view.

#4: Ajax must try to sign Tolu on a permanent transfer

Ajax have the option to sign Tolu for €20 million next summer. While that is obviously a significant sum of money, Ajax must try to sign Tolu permanently, even if they have to negotiate a lower fee with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tolu has been one of Ajax's best players so far this season. He and Leonardo give Michel two quality, but different, profiles of strikers. That gives Michel a lot of tactical flexibility.

Tolu had a difficult time in England, but he seems to be finding the form he showed in Belgium.

#5: Bowuman and Janse keep clean sheet

Aaron Bouwman and Dies Janse started together in central defence for the first time this season and kept a clean sheet.

While Telstar did have a couple of chances, the duo looked good together. Both will likely play a lot this season, and while they are both young and have areas of their games they have to develop, they are very talented and could become crucial players for Ajax in the coming seasons.
