Ajax are reportedly considering a move for Keito Nakamura as the club's search for a Mika Godts replacement continues.
Having signed Viktor Tsyhankov to strengthen the right wing and with an agreement now in place to sign Sofyan Amrabat to strengthen the no. 6 position, Ajax's biggest priority heading into the final days of the transfer window will be signing a left winger to replace Mika Godts.
Ajax had initially identified Noa Lang as their top target to replace Godts, but a move that would see the winger return to Amsterdam now looks very unlikely. Ajax held talks around a potential transfer, but they have not been able to advance in negotiations due to Napoli's asking price.
Ajax have also reportedly made an offer to sign Brian Rodríguez from Club América, but it is currently unknown how advanced negotiations are.
In addition to a new left winger, Ajax also remain keen on signing a right-footed centre-back, while talks over a deal for Azzedine Ounahi reportedly continue.
Ajax consider move for Nakamura
In addition to Rodríguez, Ajax are also reportedly considering a move for Stade de Reims winger Keito Nakamura as the club continues to search for a replacement for Godts.
According to Voetbal Primeur, Nakamura is among the left wingers on Ajax's shortlist. Nakamura himself is open to a transfer to Amsterdam, while Stade Reims is reportedly demanding €15 million for the Japanese winger.
Whether Jordi Cruijff will actually push through for the Japanese attacker from Stade Reims remains to be seen. The report claims that Ajax has already contacted Nakamura's entourage.
Would Nakamura be a good signing?
Nakamura is certainly a very good player. During the 2024/25 season, he scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 and last season, he scored 14 goals in Ligue 2.
He was also included in Japan's World Cup squad and scored a goal against the Netherlands in the group stage.
The issue with Nakamura is that he would cost €15 million, which is a lot of money for a player who plays in the second division of France.
Michel Sanchez has said that he wants a left winger who can score goals and dominate in one-on-one situations. Nakamura does score a lot of goals, and the fact that he scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 two seasons ago is a very promising sign. That being said, he is not the best dribbler. Last season in Ligue 2, he only completed 1.07 dribbles per 90, with a success rate of only 47.5%.
Rodríguez's goal-scoring record is less impressive than Nakamura's, but he is a far better dribbler. Ajax will likely have other options on their shortlist as well, and it will be intriguing to see who they sign in the coming days to replace Godts.
