Michel Sanchez has revealed what Ajax are looking for in a player to replace Mika Godts.

One of Ajax's biggest priorities going into the final days of the summer transfer window will be replacing Mika Godts.

Noa Lang has been at the top of Ajax's list for a very long time now, but a deal that would see the winger return to Amsterdam looks unlikely. There could still be hope, though. Atalanta and Galatasaray, who have both held talks over signing Lang, now seem to be focusing their efforts on signing different left wingers. Lang moving to Ajax is still considered unlikely because he is considered too expensive.

Ajax have also been linked to Arnaut Danjuma and are said to hold an interest in Genk's Noah Adedeji-Sternberg. However, neither transfer is currently concrete.

While signing a left winger is proving to be challenging, Ajax are set to strengthen the right wing with the signing of Viktor Tsyhankov. Ajax and Girona have agreed on a transfer fee worth less than €5 million, and De Telegraaf report that an agreement is now in place on personal terms. The Ukrainian winger is expected to sign a contract at Ajax until 2029.

Michel reveals Tsyhankov's qualities

Speaking to Ziggo Sport, Michel Sanchez has revealed what qualities Tsyhankov will bring to Ajax.

Michel will know the winger well, having worked with him at Girona. Should the transfer go through, Tsyhankov will become the third player Ajax have signed who worked with Michel at Girona, with the Amsterdammers having signed Daley Blind and Marc ter Stegen earlier in the window.

"He can go around the outside as well as cut inside. A complete player who can be really important for us.

"He is a winger, but he could also play behind the striker," Michel explained.

"He is a player who has depth in his game, but can also operate on the inside. He possesses the qualities that can help us in the team's overall game, but also in finishing."

Anton Gaaei was expected to leave this summer, and Eintracht Frankfurt showed strong interest in the right-back earlier in the window, but that interest has now cooled. Gaaei's ability to make overlapping runs and hold the width will complement Tsyhankov well, as Gaaei would allow the winger to move into more central areas where he excels.

Michel explains what kind of player Ajax want to replace Godts

Michel has made it clear that Tsyhankov is not the replacement for Godts and revealed what type of player Ajax are looking at to replace the Belgian winger.

"For that position, we want to sign someone strong in one-on-one situations, because we lost that with Mika. And someone who scores easily," Michel explained.

"That is what we are looking for now: a player who best matches the qualities we are looking for."

Lang suits that profile well and has proven that he can perform to a very high standard in the Eredivisie. While Ajax obviously have a budget, they need to be prepared to go as high as €20 million for Lang. Signing a player of that calibre would drastically increase Ajax's chances of winning the Eredivisie title.
