Ajax have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Noa Lang, but the winger moving to Amsterdam remains unlikely.

Ajax want to sign two new wingers before the transfer window closes, one on the left and one on the right.

Girona's Viktor Tsygankov will likely be the signing on the right wing for Ajax. An agreement is in place between Ajax and Girona for a fee reportedly worth just under €5 million. The Ukrainian winger reportedly flew to Amsterdam on Monday to conclude negotiations over personal terms.

On the left wing, it is still unclear who Ajax will sign. It has been well documented that Noa Lang has been Ajax's top priority to replace Mika Godts, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain in a transfer worth a total package of €55 million.

However, reports from Italy claim that Ajax have withdrawn from the race for Lang. Reports in the Netherlands have not gone as far as to say that Ajax have ended their interest in Lang, but most acknowledge that any potential deal will likely be very difficult.

Ajax are also said to have explored a move for Arnaut Danjuma, but as of now, that does not seem to be concrete.

Negotiations are difficult

Negotiations between Ajax and Napoli seemingly remain ongoing, but are difficult.

According to Voetbal International, Jordi Cruijff has let Noa Lang know he would like to see him back in Amsterdam, but talks between Ajax and Napoli have been difficult so far.

Ajax have other options, including Noah Adedeji-Sternberg; however, he is not at the top of the list.

Ajax handed boost in Lang pursuit

The report from Voetbal International claims that Napoli can also sell Lang to other clubs, but it is currently unclear which other clubs are seriously pursuing a move for Lang.

Various reports in Italy claimed that Atalanta had jumped ahead in the race to sign Lang, but they are now set to sign a different left winger.

According to Matteo Moretto, Atalanta is now closing in on the signing of Jonathan Rowe from Bologna. Cristiano Giuntoli, Atalanta's sporting director, has made Rowe his very top target to strengthen that area of the pitch.

It is unclear what this means for Atalanta's pursuit of Lang, but both he and Rowe are predominantly left-wingers, which means they may now be out of the race for Lang.

Galatasaray have also shown an interest in bringing Lang back to Turkey after he spent the second half of last season on loan there, but he was lower down on their shortlist. They attempted to sign Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal but were unsuccessful.

They have also been strongly linked to Rafael Leao, but there is also said to be interest from Saudi Arabian and other European clubs.
