Ajax are close to signing a new right winger with Steven Berghuis now reportedly allowed to leave.
Ajax are looking to strengthen the flanks before the summer transfer window closes.
Ajax want to sign a left winger to replace Mika Godts. Noa Lang seemed to be the top priority, but it is currently unlikely that Ajax will sign him due to the fact that he will likely be too expensive. Noah Adedeji-Sternberg from Genk has been linked to Ajax, but isn't at the top of Jordi Cruijff's list.
The right wing is also a position Ajax do want to strengthen. Steven Berghuis reportedly isn't the profile of right winger Michel Sanchez wants, and Maher Carrizo doesn't seem ready to start games regularly.
According to reports in Spain, Ajax were very interested in signing Roony Bardghji, but he suffered a serious injury recently and will be out for a long period of time. Ajax will therefore not be signing him this summer.
Ajax have been offered the chance to sign Leon Bailey from Aston Villa, but it is unclear whether this is something Ajax will pursue. He has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Godts, but has spent most of his career playing on the right wing.
Ajax close in on deal for Tsygankov
Ajax are now closing in on a deal to sign Viktor Tsygankov from Girona.
According to De Telegraaf, Ajax has reached an agreement with Girona regarding the transfer of Tsygankov.
The total transfer fee is just under €5 million and Girona will also receive a percentage of any future resale.
The winger has permission to travel to the Netherlands and will arrive in the country on Monday, where negotiations over personal terms will continue.
Berghuis allowed to leave
With Ajax now close to signing Tsygankov to strengthen the right wing, Berghuis could leave in the coming days before the transfer window closes.
According to Voetbal International, Berghuis is allowed to leave Ajax if he wants to.
However, Ajax may need to keep Berghuis. Carrizo has talent, but clearly is not yet ready to start games consistently for Ajax. Keeping Berghuis would mean that Michel has a reliable second option on the right wing, in addition to Tsygankov, if the Ukrainian winger does indeed join.
Anton Gaaei could also stay, despite serious interest earlier during the window from Eintracht Frankfurt. Gaaei and Berghuis can play together on the right wing, with Gaaei making overlapping runs and holding the width, allowing Berghuis to move into more central areas.
Berghuis has started six games so far in all competitions, scoring one goal and registering three assists.
