Ajax are actively assessing the market for a replacement for Mika Godts, who could join Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Ajax are now ramping up their search for a replacement for Mika Godts.
Paris Saint-Germain saw an opening bid of €45 million for Godts rejected, but the Parisians are expected to return with an improved offer. They also have an agreement in place with the Belgian winger on personal terms.
Should Godts indeed depart, Noa Lang has been identified by Ajax as a potential replacement, but a deal may be tricky to complete, as Napoli reportedly want €25 million for the Dutch winger. Lang joined Napoli last summer but struggled to get regular game time. He moved to Galatasaray on loan in January, but also struggled there, and is now expected to leave Napoli again this summer. It is possible that Ajax may pursue a loan move for Lang if a permanent deal is too expensive.
Ajax had also been linked to Jan Virigili and had identified the Spanish winger as a potential replacement for Godts, and he was seen as someone who would be cheaper than Lang. The winger reportedly has a €12 million release clause in his Mallorca contract, but is expected to now join Club Brugge after the Belgian club agreed a deal to sign him.
Ajax interested in Adedeji-Sternberg
Another name reportedly on Ajax's list of replacements for Mika Godts is Noah Adedeji-Sternberg.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Ajax have identified Adedeji-Sternberg as a possible Godts replacement and could ramp up their pursuit of the Belgian winger.
Club Brugge are also interested in Adedeji-Sternberg, but their pursuit of the Genk winger has suffered a major setback, with the club now set to sign Virgili from Mallorca.
The 21-year-old winger played 36 games for Genk in all competitions last season, registering one goal and two assists.
Is Adedeji-Sternberg a suitable Godts replacement?
Godts scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists in the Eredivisie last season, and signing a replacement who could replicate that level of output will be nearly impossible.
Lang could get close to that level, should he return to the level he was playing at during his time at PSV Eindhoven. Adedeji-Sternberg has only registered six goals and six assists in 79 games for Genk.
He works hard off the ball, is quite creative and is a very good dribbler, but certainly isn't decisive enough yet in games to be Ajax's first-choice left winger.
A potential outcome could be that Ajax sign Lang on loan and Adedeji-Sternberg on a permanent deal. This would give Ajax a player who can make an impact immediately, as well as a younger player who can develop into a starter.
