Negotiations have stalled as Ajax attempts to sign a Brazilian youngster.

Will Ajax win the Eredivisie?More Videos

The transfer window is now approaching the end, but Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff still has a lot of work to do as he looks to provide Michel Sanchez with a team that can challenge for the Eredivisie.

With less than two weeks to go, Ajax remain in the market for a left winger to replace Mika Godts. Ajax had identified Noa Lang as their top priority, but they have withdrawn from the race for the Dutch winger, according to reports in Italy.

Ajax also want a new right winger. Leon Bailey has been offered to Ajax. He has been named as a replacement for Godts, but has played most of his career on the right wing. Ajax are considering a move for Bailey, but reports claim nothing is concrete as of now.

A new defensive midfielder is also high on the agenda. Ajax have confirmed that they have reached an agreement to sign 17-year-old midfielder Abdoulaye Camara on loan from Udinese with an option to buy, but he will begin his time in Amsterdam with Jong Ajax, and Cruijff is therefore still looking for a player in that position for the first team.

Following the departures of Josip Sutalo, Ahmetcan Kaplan and Ko Itakura, Ajax also want to sign a new right-footed central defender in the final days of the transfer window.

Negotiations stall for Tetê

In addition to a large number of first-team signings, Ajax have been active in the market for Jong Ajax players this summer, having signed Diego Pugno, Jano Monserrate, and Camara. Ajax are now keen on signing left winger Tetê from São Paulo.

However, negotiations have seemingly stalled. According to GE Globo, talks are continuing, but both parties believe it will be hard to reach an agreement.

Ajax's first offer was worth €500,000 for a one-year loan with an obligation to buy the player for €10 million, depending on performance targets. Should the move have been made permanent, São Paulo would retain 20% of Tetê's economic rights.

The performance targets Tetê would have had to achieve to make the move permanent were linked to a relatively low number of games, and it would be easy to achieve.

Despite this offer from Ajax, GE Globo report that São Paulo informed Ajax last Friday that they prefer to negotiate a permanent transfer for the 19-year-old and would only accept a loan if the initial loan fee was significantly higher than what Ajax offered in their first proposal.

Ajax have no time to waste

With less than two weeks left in the transfer window and Ajax still needing four first-team signings, Cruijff has no time to waste. Ajax must therefore walk away from deals that are unlikely and focus their efforts on signing players who are attainable.

While Tetê is clearly a very talented player, Ajax's priority has to be signing players who can come in and make an immediate impact in the first team to help Ajax push for domestic and continental success.

If Ajax fail to sign Tetê now, they could always try again in January, or even next summer.
