After selling Mika Godts to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee which could rise to as high as €55 million, Ajax are in the market for a new left winger.

Ajax did not want to sell Godts and would have preferred to keep him for at least one more year, but the Belgian winger made it clear that he wanted to move to the reigning European champions. Ajax will receive a fixed fee of €45 million, plus €10 million in potential bonuses.

A replacement for Godts on the left wing is a top priority for Ajax, as is the defensive midfield position. The Amsterdammers are also targeting a move for a new right winger and a new centre-back, with Ahmetcan Kaplan, Ko Itakura and Josip Sutalo all leaving the club this summer. 

Godts scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists in all competitions last season, and replacing him will not be an easy task.

Despite having identified Noa Lang as a top target to replace Godts, Ajax will not be signing the Dutch forward.

It had been recently reported that Ajax and Galatasaray were both in talks with Napoli over a loan with an option to buy deal for the winger. However, Atalanta are now leading the race after making an enquiry for Lang last week.

According to Di Marzio, Ajax have now withdrawn from the race for Lang, while Galatasaray are currently considering other options.

Atalanta are now Lang's most concrete option, with Napoli needing to sell some players before being able to bring in more attacking reinforcements.

While Lang has had a difficult last twelve months since moving to Napoli, there is no doubt that he would've been a very good addition to Michel Sanchez's squad.

He is a player who would've been able to make an immediate impact as Ajax look to push for the Eredivisie title.

With Lang now no longer an option, Ajax will have to reconsider its options. Arnaut Danjuma is said to be of interest, but the winger has had a difficult last few years since leaving Villarreal and does not look like the player he once was.

He did work with Michel during his season at Girona and could be a good squad option. He could start in games against lesser opposition and also make an impact later on in games from the bench, but if Ajax want to win the Eredivisie, they will need to find someone better.

Ajax have also been linked to Leon Bailey, but he has spent most of his career playing on the right wing and would therefore probably not be a suitable replacement for Godts.

If Ajax cannot find the right player, one option could be to start Oscar Gloukh on the left wing, with Julian Brandt as the no. 10. Ajax could then use the budget for a left winger on a no. 8, who would then play next to the no. 6 Ajax have been eyeing all summer.

For the no. 8 position, Azzedine Ounahi could be an option. Ajax held talks earlier this summer over a potential deal, but it isn't a deal Ajax seem to have been actively working on over the last few weeks. However, reports in Spain claim he would be keen on a move to Amsterdam.
