Mika Godts' future will be pivotal in determining how Ajax strengthen their squad in the coming weeks.

Should Godts leave, Ajax will likely sign at least four new players. Michel Sanchez has stated publicly that he wants two new wingers if Godts leaves, one for the left and one for the right.

Michel wants a right winger because Steven Berghuis isn't capable of making constant deep runs, and he also isn't a player who is good at holding the width. He prefers coming into more central areas. Maher Carrizo is also not yet ready to take on the responsibility of starting games regularly.

It is currently unclear who Ajax are targeting to strengthen the right wing. The Amsterdammers were said to be very interested in signing Roony Bardghji from Barcelona, but the Swedish youngster suffered an ACL injury in training and will be out for an extended period of time, meaning Ajax will no longer be pursuing a transfer for him this summer.

Noa Lang has been identified as a top target to replace Godts on the left wing, and Ajax have held initial discussions over a possible deal. Ajax also reportedly held an interest in Jan Virigili from Mallorca, but he has joined Club Brugge in a €12 million deal.

While Ajax are interested in Lang, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that no deal is currently advanced.

"Ajax are interested in Noa Lang. At the moment, as far as I have been told, there are no offers. There are only contacts and phone calls with the player's agents," Romano said on Lang's situation.

"The deal is also said to be linked to the possible transfer of Exequiel Zeballos. Napoli would like to sign him from Boca Juniors, but Celta de Vigo is also keeping a close eye on him.

"Napoli still holds the lead over Celta, but the gap has narrowed, and Celta are pushing to sign Zeballos. The Argentinian himself wants to join Napoli, but everything depends on the departures at Napoli.”

"Lang is doing very well so far in pre-season and looks like the player Napoli signed a year ago again, and not the player we subsequently saw throughout the season."

Napoli reportedly paid a fee of €28 million, including bonuses, to sign Lang from PSV Eindhoven last season.                                                                                                                           

Given how his season went, it would be reasonable to assume that his value has dropped. He struggled to get regular game time in Naples during the first half of the season and therefore left on loan in January.

He was loaned out to Galatasaray, and the Turkish giants had the option to sign him for €30 million, but decided not to do so after he managed only two goals and three assists in all competitions.

Despite all of that, though, Lang is 27-years-old so is now in his prime. He also proved during his time in Eindhoven that he can make a real impact in the Eredivisie.

Ajax would probably like to sign him on loan with an option to buy, but if Napoli insists on a permanent transfer, a fee of around €20 million including bonuses would be fair.
