Feyenoord Icon Willem van Hanegem Delivers Honest Verdict on PSV Draw

Feyenoord legend Willem van Hanegem believes PSV were firmly in control during the first half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at the Philips Stadion, criticising his former club’s performance before the break.
Peter Bosz’s side took a deserved lead through Guus Til after dominating the opening period. However, Anis Hadj Moussa equalised after half-time, leaving PSV four points behind Feyenoord in the Eredivisie standings.
Writing in his column for Algemeen Dagblad, Van Hanegem did not hide his disappointment with Feyenoord’s initial display.
“PSV was more aggressive, created more chances, and had the match under control. In fact, Anis Hadj Moussa’s equaliser was only the first time Feyenoord showed themselves going forward,” he wrote.
Although Feyenoord improved after the interval, Van Hanegem questioned the decision-making of several players. He singled out Gjivai Zechiël for taking the ball from teammate Charles Vanhoutte, warning against players trying to do too much individually.
Van Hanegem also criticised Vanhoutte for occasionally attempting to play through opponents unnecessarily.
His message to head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst was clear: Feyenoord looked better when players worked hard, kept moving and chose simple solutions.
“If players now start thinking they are better than they actually are, then that is dangerous,” the former Netherlands international warned.
