ESPN Analysts Criticise PSV and Feyenoord Goalkeepers After Draw

PSV and Feyenoord’s 1-1 draw on Sunday has prompted criticism of both goalkeepers, with ESPN analysts Kenneth Perez and Karim El Ahmadi questioning their willingness to dominate the six-yard box.
PSV started strongly at the Philips Stadion but failed to build on their first-half performance. Anis Hadj Moussa equalised after the break, while PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar made several important saves to prevent Feyenoord from taking the lead.
Despite those interventions, Perez believes Kovar and Feyenoord goalkeeper Tjark Ernst need to be more proactive when dealing with danger inside the penalty area.
“Both goalkeepers had good saves. But I would go completely crazy if my goalkeeper doesn’t want to dominate the six-yard box. Both goalkeepers do that neither,” Perez said on ESPN.
El Ahmadi agreed with his fellow analyst but highlighted a difference in their approaches.
“With Kovar, it’s more about exploiting a long ball over the defence, whereas Feyenoord’s goalkeeper really always stays on his line,” the former midfielder explained.
Perez then suggested the issue extended beyond Sunday's match, arguing that goalkeepers in the Netherlands too often remain on their lines instead of coming out to deal with danger.
“I think it’s definitely a trend in the Netherlands with those keepers that they don’t come out. Do you know how much danger you can avoid by doing that?” he added.
