Former PSV Star Denzel Dumfries Earns Praise From Spanish Media After El Clasico Appearance

Former PSV player Denzel Dumfries has received positive reviews from the Spanish media after making an impact off the bench in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in El Clasico.
Dumfries joined Real Madrid from Internazionale last summer, but his involvement has been limited in recent weeks. The Netherlands international remained an unused substitute for the full 90 minutes against RB Leipzig and Sevilla, before getting an opportunity at the weekend.
At the Camp Nou, Dumfries replaced Federico Valverde around the hour mark after the midfielder was unable to continue. He took over at right-back and helped Real Madrid see out an important away victory.
Spanish outlet Sport acknowledged his contribution, while noting that the Dutchman has yet to establish himself as a regular starter.
“He came in for Valverde and took over the right-back position. He did well there, though his role remains somewhat smaller than the regular spot he seemed to be able to win,” the outlet reported.
AS was similarly complimentary, describing Dumfries as a reliable option who offered both composure and attacking threat.
“Dumfries came onto the field for Valverde and showed that he is a reliable player. He held the ball well and was a constant threat in the opponent’s half,” the newspaper wrote.
Meanwhile, Marca focused on the tactical decisions that helped Real Madrid secure the result, highlighting the impact of the team's selection and substitutions.
For Dumfries, the appearance represents a positive contribution at a time when regular minutes have been difficult to secure. His performance against Barcelona could give him further opportunities as the season progresses.
