Hugo Borst Launches Scathing Criticism of Feyenoord Boss After PSV Draw

Hugo Borst has held Feyenoord head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst responsible for his side’s disappointing first-half performance in their 1-1 draw against PSV, accusing the manager of adopting an overly cautious approach before the match.

Writing in Algemeen Dagblad, Borst criticised Van Bronckhorst’s comments before and after Sunday’s clash at the Philips Stadion, arguing that his underdog mentality had affected the team’s performance.

“Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who you then hear say afterwards that in the first half his team lacked bravado. That was, to no small extent, his fault,” Borst wrote.

The columnist added that Van Bronckhorst had downplayed Feyenoord’s position during Friday’s press conference, despite the stature of the Rotterdam club.

“That cowardly attitude toward PSV-Feyenoord does not match the status of his club,” Borst argued, blaming the coach for losing duels and giving the ball away too frequently before half-time.

Borst also turned his attention to Anis Hadj Moussa, who scored Feyenoord’s equaliser, and his changing relationship with teammate Sem Steijn following their disagreement during the defeat to Real Betis.

“The hierarchy is set. Hadj Moussa is the lion. Steijn is a fawn,” Borst wrote, suggesting the winger’s goals and performances have given him greater influence within the team.
