PSV’s Next Opponents in Crisis After Willem II Suffer Humiliating 6-1 Defeat

PSV will welcome bottom-placed Willem II to Eindhoven next Saturday, with their upcoming opponents facing mounting pressure after a disastrous week in Tilburg.

Willem II dismissed head coach John Stegeman last week, appointing former PSV player Adrie Koster on an interim basis. Koster represented PSV between 1979 and 1983 and later worked as a youth coach at the club.

However, his return to management brought little immediate improvement. Willem II suffered a crushing 6-1 home defeat against SC Cambuur, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie table.

Brabants Dagblad delivered a scathing assessment of the performance, describing it as “degrading, scandalous, below all standards”. Willem II were already trailing 3-0 before the 19th minute, with the situation deteriorating further after half-time.

Koster acknowledged the scale of the challenge facing his side and urged his players to remain united.

“Stay together, don’t let each other down, work extremely hard to turn this around. That’s not easy, that’s the reality. But we are going to try,” he said.

The newspaper, however, dismissed his remarks as familiar slogans.

With confidence low and results worsening, Willem II must find a response quickly before travelling to face PSV next Saturday.
