The reigning Dutch champions launch their quest for silverware at the Philips Stadion, hosting Vitesse as they aim to overcome recent semi-final heartbreak and reclaim cup glory.

PSV have discovered their opponents for the second round of the Eurojackpot KNVB Cup, with Peter Bosz’s side set to welcome Vitesse to the Philips Stadion in December.

The draw, conducted during ESPN’s De Voetbalkantine, confirmed that PSV will begin their cup campaign at home against the Arnhem-based club as they look to make another push for domestic silverware.

PSV were among the clubs given a bye in the previous round because of their European commitments. Ajax, Feyenoord, AZ, FC Twente and NEC also entered the competition at this stage.

Vitesse secured their place in the second round with a 2-0 away victory over VVV-Venlo on Wednesday evening. The result at De Koel ensured that the Eerste Divisie side progressed to a challenging meeting with the reigning Dutch champions.

PSV Targeting Return To KNVB Cup Glory

The Eindhoven club will be eager to make a strong impression in this season's competition. Their most recent KNVB Cup triumph came on 30 April 2023, when they defeated Ajax in the final.

That match finished 1-1 after extra time before PSV prevailed in the penalty shootout to lift the trophy.

However, Bosz's team have been unable to reach the final in either of the last two campaigns, suffering consecutive semi-final exits.

On 26 February 2025, PSV were beaten 2-1 at home by Go Ahead Eagles, who went on to win the competition. Last season, they suffered another painful elimination, losing 3-2 away to NEC in Nijmegen. NEC subsequently reached the final but finished as runners-up.

The draw against Vitesse therefore presents PSV with an opportunity to begin their latest cup campaign positively and take an important step towards ending their recent semi-final disappointments.

The second-round fixtures are scheduled to be completed at the beginning of December. The clubs that progress will secure their places in the round of 16, which is set to take place on 12, 13 and 14 January 2027.

PSV will now turn their attention to preparing for Willem II in the Eredivisie, knowing that another serious attempt at KNVB Cup glory begins with a home encounter against the Eerste Divisie side.
