Fresh off his Oranje debut, the rising winger faces soaring expectations as scouts circle and club icons predict a multi-million-pound move to the Premier League elite.

Ruben van Bommel has returned to PSV after making his senior Netherlands debut, with club legend Willy van de Kerkhof already predicting a major future for the young winger.

Peter Bosz's side return to Eredivisie action on Friday, when they host SC Heerenveen at the Philips Stadium. PSV will be looking to respond after suffering a 3-2 defeat away to FC Twente before the international break.

For Van Bommel, however, the international window provided another important step in his development after he made his Oranje debut.

Van de Kerkhof Predicts Big Future

Speaking on the Willy & René PSV Podcast for Omroep Brabant, Willy van de Kerkhof was emphatic when discussing the PSV youngster's potential.

“He is going to be an incredible player; I am convinced of that. Van Bommel is going to become one of the best players in Europe within a few years, just wait and see,” Willy said.

His brother René was more cautious about making such a strong prediction.

“Against Germany, of course, he made a great assist, but against Serbia it was a lot less after that. You just have to wait and see how he develops,” René said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

Van Bommel made an impression during the Netherlands' recent matches, including an assist against Germany, although his performances were not equally influential across the international fixtures.

‘Someone From England’ Could Arrive

Willy remains convinced that the 21-year-old has the qualities to develop into a top-level player while also pointing to the football environment around him.

“He also has two excellent coaches behind him. His father Mark and his grandfather Bert van Marwijk,” Willy said.

The PSV legend also revealed that he spoke with Van Bommel during the match against Serbia and suggested that his continued progress could soon attract interest from abroad.

“If he keeps it up like this, then in a few months someone from England with a pile of money will be at the door,” Willy added.

The remark points towards the potential for Premier League interest if Van Bommel maintains his current development at PSV.

For now, Van Bommel's attention returns to club football.

PSV face Heerenveen at 8 p.m. on Friday as Bosz's side attempt to put the defeat at Twente behind them and restart their Eredivisie campaign positively.

Van Bommel will now look to build on his first experience with the Netherlands while continuing his development at PSV, where expectations around his long-term potential are already growing.
