Couhaib Driouech was back on the PSV training pitch on Tuesday, just days after his proposed move to Rangers FC dramatically collapsed.

As reported by PSV Watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, the 24-year-old had been close to joining the Scottish club in a lucrative multi-million-euro transfer, only for Rangers to abandon the deal after their medical team concluded that Driouech would be sidelined for around six weeks.

That assessment remains disputed. Driouech does not believe the injury warrants such a lengthy absence, while PSV's management also does not share the Scottish club's view.

For now, the winger is back in Eindhoven and focused on getting his season back on track.

Driouech took part in almost every exercise during PSV's open training session, offering little indication that he expects to spend another month and a half on the sidelines.

"If it were up to me, I’d be back in the squad on Sunday. I’m not in any pain and I feel fit," Driouech said after training at the Philips Stadium.

The failed transfer has nevertheless been difficult to deal with.

"It was a hectic week, but I’m glad to be training with the group again. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster, but I’m happy to be back on the pitch."

Driouech explained that the disagreement was about the severity of a thigh problem.

"I had a small tear in my thigh, plus some minor bruising from a knock with a knee. Here, they thought I’d be back in no time. Over there, they didn't."

He admitted the collapse was difficult to process after briefly imagining himself playing in Scotland.

"I have absolutely no say in that decision, and I would have loved to go to Scotland; you spend a few days there, start feeling like a player for that club, and picture yourself in that other kit."

The disappointment of seeing the Rangers move disappear was softened by the reception he received on his return to PSV.

"Your mind is elsewhere, but I’m still glad to be back in Eindhoven. The club has really looked after me. Earnie [Stewart] told me that the people here would be there for me. That meant a lot."

Driouech added: "I’m grateful to play for PSV, and things are already heading in the right direction for me. It’s not the first time this has happened to me, but it really sucks. Ultimately, you have to switch gears. That’s what being a footballer is about. Things like this happen."

There remains interest from elsewhere. Celta de Vigo, who initially wanted a loan, have now indicated they could consider a permanent transfer. Columbus Crew are also monitoring the situation, while RB Salzburg are understood to be interested.

For the moment, however, Driouech is concentrating on PSV.

"Right now, I’m focusing on PSV. If Earnie and my agent come up with something else, we’ll see."

The forward appeared genuinely buoyed by his return to the club.

"Sometimes you have to be a man about things. I give everything for PSV, and I do it with a smile. When you get the chance to be here as a player, life is simply beautiful. I’m focusing on Sunday."
