After dissecting a disciplined European masterclass in Portugal, the Dutch legend shifts focus to the Eredivisie, challenging Feyenoord to dismantle the champions' relentless grip on domestic dominance.

Ruud Gullit has praised Peter Bosz’s tactical approach after PSV Eindhoven secured their first Champions League victory of the campaign against FC Porto, but the Dutch football legend is also looking forward to Feyenoord’s upcoming Eredivisie showdown with the reigning champions.

PSV claimed a 1-0 victory in Portugal, with Guus Til scoring the decisive goal in a performance that impressed Gullit. The former Netherlands international highlighted the team’s pressing, organisation and collective effort, while questioning the quality of Francesco Farioli’s Porto side.

However, with PSV and Feyenoord preparing to meet in a crucial league fixture, Gullit is hoping the Rotterdam club can challenge the dominance enjoyed by Bosz’s team over the past three seasons.

Gullit Impressed By Bosz’s Tactical Plan

Speaking as an analyst for Ziggo Sport, Gullit praised PSV for controlling much of the contest at the Estádio do Dragão. He felt Bosz had prepared his side well, allowing them to disrupt Porto’s rhythm and prevent the Portuguese team from building momentum.

“PSV deserved to win, but they’re not rewarding themselves enough,” Gullit said.

The former AC Milan and Chelsea midfielder also observed that Bosz appeared nervous on the touchline as PSV failed to make the most of several opportunities to extend their lead.

“Bosz was nervous on the bench, because they could have decided the match much earlier. If they had put away one of those chances, they’d be in the driver's seat,” Gullit added.

PSV ultimately had to withstand pressure during the closing stages, when Porto created opportunities to equalise. Nevertheless, Gullit believed the visitors’ overall performance deserved considerable credit.

'Porto Looked Mediocre' Against PSV

Gullit was particularly critical of Porto’s display under Farioli, suggesting PSV’s organisation and intensity made the home side appear far less threatening than expected.

“They didn’t score, but I think PSV played so well that Porto looked mediocre. I thought they were so poor. But that’s because of PSV; compliments for that,” he explained.

Rather than singling out one player, Gullit emphasised the collective nature of PSV’s performance. He praised their willingness to press forward, their tactical discipline and their ability to prevent Porto from establishing control of the match.

“I thought it was more of a team performance than that you can single out an individual. Tactically it was put together well, with good pressure forward. They didn’t give Porto the chance to get into the match. All compliments for that to Bosz,” Gullit said, as quoted by PSV Inside.

The victory provided PSV with an important response after a difficult run of domestic results, while also demonstrating the effectiveness of Bosz’s approach against European opposition.

Gullit Hopes Feyenoord Can Challenge PSV's Dominance

Despite his admiration for PSV’s recent performances, Gullit is keen to see Feyenoord emerge as serious challengers in the Eredivisie title race.

PSV have won the Dutch league in each of the past three seasons, establishing themselves as the dominant force in the competition. Gullit enjoyed watching their success but believes the league would benefit from a closer contest between its leading clubs.

He sees Feyenoord as a team performing strongly this season and is eager to see them test PSV when the sides meet at the top of the table.

Gullit’s support for Feyenoord does not diminish his appreciation of PSV. He regards both clubs as important parts of Dutch football, but after three consecutive league titles for Eindhoven, he would welcome a shift in the balance of power.

The upcoming encounter therefore carries significance beyond the immediate standings. Feyenoord have an opportunity to strengthen their title credentials, while PSV will look to carry the confidence gained in Porto into domestic competition.

Gullit has made his admiration for Bosz’s work clear. Now, he will be watching to see whether Feyenoord can provide the strongest challenge yet to PSV’s recent dominance.
