Moments later, Undav got on the scoresheet himself. Kimmich again provided the assist, and the striker's effort found its way into the net despite a slight touch on its way through.

With Curacao tiring badly, Germany showed no signs of easing off. Havertz completed his brace late on with a delicate clipped finish over Room to cap a devastating attacking display and seal a comprehensive 7-1 victory.

Yet Dick Advocaat's side showed courage and composure in possession whenever opportunities arose. Their historic moment arrived midway through the first half when Isaac Comenencia scored Curacao's first World Cup goal, a landmark achievement that will live forever in the country's football history.

Eloy Room also prevented the margin from becoming even greater with several important interventions during the first half.

The biggest issue was their inability to cope with Germany's movement and speed of circulation. Defensively they were stretched constantly, while transitions often left them exposed against elite attackers. Nevertheless, there was admirable resilience and spirit throughout.

For a nation of fewer than 160,000 people making its tournament debut, simply competing on this stage remains a remarkable accomplishment and a foundation they can build upon.

Germany's commanding victory immediately places them in a position of strength at the top of Group E.

Beyond the three points, the seven goals scored could prove significant later in the group stage if qualification positions are decided on goal difference. Nagelsmann's side have effectively sent a message to both Ivory Coast and Ecuador that they remain serious contenders despite recent World Cup disappointments.
