According to the president of Spanish side Getafe, Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos could be joining the club, following the recent signing of another club legend in the form of Dani Carvajal.
In the summer of 2021, Sergio Ramos departed Real Madrid after 16 years and countless trophies won at the Bernabeu.
He then spent two years at PSG, before re-joining Sevilla— where he had started his career. After a year there, he was then a free agent for a little over six months, before making a surprise decision to join Mexican side Monterrey.
From there, he would spend the rest of the calendar year at the club, making 30 appearances and in true Ramos fashion, finding the back of the net on seven occasions. He left at the end of 2025, and has been without a club since.
Well, that could soon change. Indeed so, as Getafe president Angel Torres said (via Marca) to RNE: “His agent has spoken with me. He’s on the list of potential signings, he could come.”
Wow. Crazy. He would join his former long term Real Madrid and Spain team mate Dani Carvajal, who was officially announced as a free agent signing by Getafe earlier on this week. When that news was being reported, it was said that they were continuing to dip into the free agent market, and so it is proving.
There was already going to be a number of eyes on Getafe after the signing of Carvajal, and the potential signings of Ramos would only further increase that. Especially for the local fans, with Getafe being a fellow club that are based in the Spanish capital.
During his unveiling, Carvajal implied the close proximity of Getafe was a big factor in his decision, so perhaps that could sway Ramos too. Although he is from Seville, he lived in Madrid for a long time and it is certainly much closer to home than Mexico.
Just to put things into perspective for a moment - Carvajal feels like a veteran, experienced signing for Getafe towards the end of his career, right? Well, he is a whole six years younger than Ramos, who turned 40 back in March of this year. That shows you just how long the former Real Madrid centre back has been around for.
Remember: The third of January is when Los Blancos will face Getafe at the Bernabeu in the first meeting between the sides this season. That will be Carvajal's homecoming, and it could be Ramos' too.
Let’s see if any potential deal goes through. We will keep you updated on any developments in the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned here at Roundtable.
