According to very high level and high profile reports on Wednesday evening (the 5th of August 2026), Real Madrid have offered Vinicius new and improved terms.
Earlier on today, it was reported that Real Madrid had finally agreed a deal to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande for a reported fee of 125 million Euros, plus potentially another 15 million in add ons for what could eventually be a 140m package deal.
Some of those add ons are said to be easily achievable, whilst others are said to be a lot harder. Either way, a very expensive deal but for a player who is 1) clearly already very good, and 2) has enormous potential. So it is good that that all seems to be sorted now.
Something that is very much not sorted, however, is Vinicius Jr and his contract situation. As is well documented, the Brazilian's existing deal at the Bernabeu expires next year, and he has still not agreed to an extension, with crunch talks said to have taken place today.
Well, there is an update on that front. Indeed so, as just after 19:00 CET on Wednesday (the 5th of August), high profile journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic has reported that Real Madrid have offered Vinicius an improved deal, rising from their original offer of 22 million Euros per season, which had been widely reported as the club's final offer.
However, based on this report from Ornstein, it was not their final offer. He states that the new proposal was to reflect his importance to the side, and it is now decision time for the 26 year old. Three options are on the table: Renewal, see the final year of his contract out and explore the free agent market, or join Premier League side Arsenal this summer.
Very interesting. It did not feel like the club would budge on their initial offer, especially considering 22 million Euros is already a hell of a lot of money. The club would usually be too proud to do that sort of thing, but it shows just how much they value Vinicius to be doing so.
Will he acknowledge that appreciation and reciprocate it by extending? Hard to know just yet, but it can only be a good thing that the offer has increased, so let's wait and see. Hopefully, whatever ends up happening, this can be sorted too. Very dramatic window so far, and there is still the Rodri saga to come too. So it really is a good job Diomande has finally been sorted, eh.
